Hi All,

I'm looking to upgrade a few components in the below spec, nameley the Graphics card and RAM. Ive been out of the building your own PC scene for a year or so.

I've highlighted the below card as a replacement and looking for feedback whether it would fit in on the below spec at the bottom of this post.

Currently i dont experiance any problems with running games like Modern Warefare 2, however I recently played Bad company and the smoke effects from bomb blasts were distorted and came up in red and white lol, however that was the only problem, the screen play was smooth and not jerky so didnt really impact me that much.

I want to try and future proof it for the immediate future, however we all know it moves so fast.

Intel Core 2 Quad Pro Q6600 "Energy Efficient SLACR 95W Edition" 2.40GHz (1066FSB)
Microsoft Windows 7 Ultra 64bit
Seagate Barracuda 7200.11 500GB SATA-II 32MB Cache - OEM (ST3500320AS)
Antec P182 Special Edition Super Midi Tower Case - No PSU (Mirror Finish)
OcUK GeForce 8800 GT 512MB GDDR3 HDTV/Dual DVI (PCI-Express)
Abit IP35 Pro (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard
OCZ 2GB (2x1GB) PC2-6400 800MHz Reaper HPC Enhanced Bandwidth Edition Dual Channel DDR2 (OCZ2RPR800EB2GK)
OCZ StealthXStream 600w Silent SLI Ready ATX2 Power Supply
Tuniq tower

So hows that card looking, and does anyone have any recommendations, bearing in mind my current spec.

Obviously im going to upgrade the RAM as well, any thoughts on that would be good, although I know this is the graphics forum.

Cheers

Upping to 3+ shouldnt be a problem Ive done it in the past.

I think I'm at stock at the mo as i recenlty rebuilt it.

It'll certainly help if you overclock your chip, especially when you have a capable CPU, mobo, and cooling. It's almost a sin not to :D With that setup you should be able to achieve upto 3.6Ghz with a bit of luck.

GTX470 is good, pair that with 2gb extra memory and it will last you for a while yet. However AMD is about to introduce their latest high end cards, namely 6950/6970/6990 as well as NV's GTX580 if rumours are to be believed. So it's worth hanging on a few more weeks for more upgrade options.

So I have my chip at 3.5Ghz, gonna check with prime tonight to see if stable.

If so, any recommendations to card? I know Steve said about waiting, but want to look at my options now, I'm no going to buy until next month anyway, but want some advice on whats available now.
