Unless of course it wasnt actually supposed to be an M1, could be that it was indeed an M60 and was supposed to be an M60. Although they arent still used generally by the standard US military, they are still used by the national guard in some states, could be that it was a national guard unit rather than regular military.

It isn't an M60 though, that I'm certain of, it is clearly a Chieftain with a US paintjob and a few modifications. M60s are of an older design that looks very little like a M1 or Chieftain. The turret sticks up much higher, which is a design no modern tank uses and M60s as far as I'm aware are not used by the National Guard, they are all retired or in storage. The National Guard does however have access to M1 Abrams.

It's possibly an older chieftain/m60 used by the national guard considering the setting, i suspect a lot of semi retired hardware would have been dug out.

Cheiftains wouldn't be deloyed on US soil and I doubt they'd have time or the need to take older tanks out of storage. With a russian invasion tanks would be needed but zombies? I mean it is possible, but much more likely that the National Guard just used their currently issued M1s. Afterall the Chieftain looks a lot more like an M1 than an M60.

Looks like a cross between an Chieftain and Centurion...

In the comic it was definitely an M1

I really enjoyed it, can't wait for the next episode.

The tank he rides past is the same one he gets in, he doubles back, the gater is just harder to see on the distance shot. It definately isn't an M1, but I think that it is suposed to be one considering the series looks like it is set in the present. My guess its an Chieftain tank (M60 is too small and the wrong design to make a realistic M1 stand in) that the prop department did their best to make look like an M1, you have to remember this is Tv so the budget for hiring a proper M1 prop would likely be out of their grasp.

It could also be that they needed the escape hatch for the series of events they wanted in the scene, which the Chieftain has but the M1 doesn't.

Just had to revisit this and have another look. It is the same tank you are correct, it's not a gater in the last scense, it's the dead body! Oops!

Poor phone camera shot:

Certainly does look like a Chieftain doesn't it?

Chieftain it may be then, but I can 100% guarantee you that the national guard use M60A3s , I can even give you a list of which US states national guard divisions were still using M60A3s as of the start of this year.

I question why the bottom escape hatch was open too... Also I'm guessing there is still fuel in there so fire it up and get moving, can't think of any better transport than a tank to get out of a city... It's not like you'll damage it if you hit something... Oh also, anyone else want him to use machine gun on the roof? :p

Took a punt and watched this today and I have to say it was brilliant, nice amount of suspense, drama and emotion. Hopefully it won't go the same way as Terminator and get axed after a series or two, or Spartacus.

EDIT: Also can anyone recommend me any US series that are like this, Sarah Connor or Sparatacus? Be interested to see if they are any good/ :)

so much to talk about - new series, zombies, walking dead comic and all we have is 9 pages of "the thread is gonna close" and "escape hatch in a blah blah blah tank".

I expected so much more from you all!!

(i thought it was a pretty awesome pilot actually!)

Well to be fair, for 7 pages of the 9 pages the show wasnt actually out for people to talk about it. :)

sarach connor chronicles unfortunately started to get awesome a few episodes before it was canceled.. it really did look like for the last 5-6 episodes they had turned the show around but it was to late.

spartacus most people will agree started out okay but with a slightly amateur looking aproach , but every episode seems more profesional than the last , the story got better with every episode and it ended on an absolutely epic beyond all proportions final ending to series 1.

the main actor got cancer , over come it and then the cancer came back so he has decided to quit the show , they are airing a prequel in january and recasting the spartacus main role for series 2.

btw "the event" might be a series you check out aswell i think a uk chanell started showing it already

He was looking for gas for his car and thought maybe he'd found a survivor but she was really a FREAKIN ZOMBIE!!!! so he shot her.

Yeah that I understand but after that it went back to before he was shot and in the hospital and it never revisited the girl shooting scene. So where does it fit in?

That and he left the police car at the house and took the horse.

It was just a flashback to show the viewer that its involving zombies and to show that he is tough enough that he has no qualms about shooting a "little girl" in the head.

Took the horse because of the lack of fuel for the car.

Yeah I know, SCC was pretty good and the "final" story arc was getting really good, then it got cut. :/

Same with Spartacus, really unfortunate that he got cancer and even then I can't wait til it comes back on again, not sure how they can top off the last couple of episodes though, they were epic!

I'll have a look into The Event then, see what it's like. :)

Was it not a flashforward...?

Although I agree, it didn't really fit in brilliantly with the time it was supposed to be set in (when he was looking for fuel).

Spoiler?

Well imagine trying to hook an audience by starting off with a crappy little cop drama start, it just won't work. So to establish it they use the flash forward thing involving all of Americas best; Guns, zombies and gas! Very well done and I can't wait for the next one!
