The time has come

The one thing I will say for Honda cars that wear red badges, whenever I watch a Best Motoring video where they take a selection of stock cars for a 5 lap battle around a circuit, the type-r's always put in consistent laps, sure the faster stuff shoots of into the distance for a lap or two, but they are soon caught up and overtaken by the hondas.

Beginning to think that Best Motoring might be a little bit staged. I know Tsukuba isn't a big circuit, but I've seen JDM machinery hold off foreign cars that really should wipe the floor with them.

IIRC they had an Aristo hold a E39 M5 off for a few laps. As much as I like Aristos, a M5 with 100bhp+ more should wipe the floor with an Aristo... Atleast until BPU mods are added .

Joshy, when you are purchasing a car like this, it doesn't matter so much whether it is £3k better than a 306 if the 306 just doesn't appeal to the prospective owner.

Can we get some perspective here, we are discussing which old hatchback to buy not whether you fancy a Lambo or an Aston Martin.

Both are about as appealing to look at as any generic 90's hatchback, so it's down to the drive, and I doubt either is light years ahead of the other.

For you maybe, not for me.

I actually quite like the DC2 and the EK9, both aesthetically and the community and "heritage" that surrounds them.

The 306 to me, is well, just a 306. Probably the same way you view the Civic.

What difference does it make if an EK9 costs £5k if you can sell it for £5k when you're done? Guess what, some things in life hold a premium price. Deal with it!

MikeHiow - make sure to show some good pics / videos if you do get the car. I probably wouldn't buy one but I don't see the problem in spending £5k on one. Great cars.

This is partly I care little about the cost. I have nothing better for that money to be doing :)

Yah, that's another thing that's gets me too.

"I'm not doing to suffer any deprecation" doesn't fly well with me. I can't think of many 12 year old hatchbacks that are going to absoultely haemorrhage money over the next few years... But then again the vast majority of them already have! :D

What is the problem spending £5k if you know you'll get strong money for it when you come to sell it? I really fail to see the issue.

I'd certainly rather have an EK9 than an EP3 or FN2.

In which case we should really lock this thread up and leave it at here.

Mike is one of "them". No amount of pleading is going to change his mind. Seriously, best of luck with the new purchase :)

I would ask you to post pics when you get it, but I'm afraid the brightness might damage my new monitor! :D

I suppose I should ask you the old forum etiquette of suppling info/source for this claim? or is it personal opinion from a "brain fart".

Of course it's opinion, one I'm happy with too, being that I base it on numerous factors. If you wish to view Best Motoring as 'proof' of car A being quicker than car B feel free, I'll chose not to in the same way I chose not to with Top Gear and their silly track times, which many in this country take at face value. Same as people who think the CSL has a cardboard boot etc etc etc...

I think Tim thought he was getting depreciation free motoring from his as well, I don't think he actually managed it.

You only get 5k if you can wait 6 months for a fanboy to come along I think :p

The time has come ? What time ?

I went out in Tims at one of the Manchester Meets, while the exhaust and engine was comedy gold, with the rev counter going right up to 10k.

It didn't feel that quick, and handled quite tidy, I wouldn't pay the £3800 ontop of what my 306 Rallye cost to buy one since there was no real world difference in it, just how big your balls are and how thick your skull is.

:D

Can't find the Kakimoto vid, think it's hosted on DRZ's channel, but it sounded rather lovely with the Mugen.

This.

Just to throw a spanner in the works, whats that banzai Nissan hatch thing with 200bhp from a 1.6? You could have one of those and pretend to be a Jap touring car driver too!

Edit: Google-fu time!

Nissan Pulsar SR16VE N1 — Featured in the JDM Pulsar VZ-R N1, which was a racing homologation version intended to compete with the Honda Civic Type-R. Producing 200 PS (147 kW; 197 hp) from its 1.6 L SR16VE engine, it held the highest specific output ever for a naturally aspirated production car, at 123.125 hp/litre until the Honda F20C engine was released in the Honda S2000. The "Version2" (VerII) was introduced offering a few chassis and mechanical tweaks as well as an option orange trimmed interior with GTR Skyline front seats. N1's available in Black and White only.
