I have the sense to tell you as little as possible now, that is all :)

I wonder why you've chosen now to do this rather than the 8 billion opportunities over the last year.

What about this more easy to answer question.

Did you drive the Civic, yourself, properly?

I am going to assume you are still of reasonable character therefore I beleive you simply didnt drive the car, rather than you drove it with no insurance :)

Ask Tim what he thinks of his 182 in comparison to his EK9.

I think i've already explained, but basically theres nothing in it in terms of performance and handling. EK9 is harder to drive fast as you have to keep it between 6000 and 8900rpm constantly. This isn't a bad thing though as that's part of the driver involvment! With the Clio you can just put your foot down and it'll go fast.

EK9 engine note is better, and probably more reliable? I say probably as the engine is getting on a bit now..

Plus side of the Clio is things like xenons, cruise control and auto wipers etc, arguably things you don't need on a hot hatch though:p

oh and I guess the Clio makes you look less of a barry boy, but thats not something that ever bothered me:p

Being able to test drive performance cars and imports from private sellers is a constant issue for the under 25's on this forum. You'd be contributing something, for once, if you were to explain how you manage it :)

Couldn't agree more!

And are these 2 cars the same price ish?

Well no, I reckon I'd struggle to get 3500 for my Clio if I advertised it today.

So you can get a car just as capable but modern or you can pay another 1500 quid for a 12 year old civic.

I accept that in certain circumstances if you have a passion for something, nothing else will do. For these people, perhaps an EK9 is right. This is probably why Tim misses his despite his own admission that the Clio is basically as good.

MikeHiow isnt one of these people as he hadn't even thought about an EK9 when he posted his shortlist 5 days ago.

Pretty much yea. You can get a 172 for £2k can't you?

Tim swapped his EK9 for the Clio because he couldn't sell his EK9...

Whilst true it was a half arsed sale:p I didn't even bother with Autotrader or Ebay, I was happy to keep it. In the end a swap for a 182 seemed a good idea. The main reason being the 182 would be easier to shift when I can afford a DC5:p

No those people drive 15 year old Maserati's or whatever when nothing else will do.

This is the worst case of scene tax iv ever seen, in fact i never even knew what scene tax was till a month ago, even my son thought a civic was a civic i just asked him.

Mike has gone all quiet since I questioned whether he really did drive the car :(

I dont know why he dosent just say he drove it round an industrial estate to shut you up :D

Because then we'd rightly question how you can size up a suitable B road basher by taking a quick spin around an industrial estate :p

Hopefully he will come back and show us a way of insuring cars like this for quick test drives, it's a subject that often comes up and usually the answer is 'its really hard', but nice if we can find a way :)

That or he'll tell us he's not driven one yet, which I suspect is the actual scenario.

I dont even know why MikeHiow posts here so much, he just gets lynched over and over again by Fox (and rightly so, to be fair).

You could call it harsh, but I call it entertainment :D

Hey I've been cutting back lately, by the time I get into a MikeH epic people have already made all the points I would :p
