Anyone know if BE Broadband are any good?

Can you please try and get a picture uploaded if possible, of the back of the face plate and a bigger image of the socket wires, also how many sockets did you say you had in total?

Just want to double check, because it seems you have the ring wire connected.

i have 4 sockets in total, this is from the one in my upstairs living room im guessing they are all the same as the master socket is outside. The router is not connected to this socket though my phone is.

OK it seems that the ring wire is connected. Now, if you can, disconnect the Orange/White and the Orange Wires, and then test the phone. if BT have wired it up correctly then it will work.

If it does work, as in you can make calls/receive then proceed to do this on all your sockets.

Unless first you unscrew the black box and see if there are numbers on the other side, but from what I can gather it goes from bottom right 1 2 3 then top left 4 5 6, or bottom left 1 2 3 and top right 4 5 6. You only need 2 and 5 connected, which is usually the blue/white and blue wire.

Thanks so much for your help mate! do i just have to simply "pull them out" dont wanna get an electric shock or anything lol, would this possibly reduce the line noise?

Also, this is how a standard external NTE usually looks like inside!

maybe i will open my master socket box outside and do the same there then and just leave the blue and the blue and white connected? do i have to do anything with the wires i take out or can i just leave them hanging?

again sorry for sounding kinda silly never done this kinda thing before

Nah, leave the wires in the NTE alone, they will not affect anything once disconnected from the sockets!

You can just leave the wires hanging. :)

cool cheers dude, i just had a look in the box outside and there are 3 numbers 2,3,5. 2 is blue 3 is orange and 5 was white & blue all connected

Im going to leave all the wires in the master connected like you said would i be ok just to disconected the 2 orange wires from the socket the router is connected to rather than doing it on all of the sockets or would it still affect it?

Done them all mate not really changed a lot tho to be honest these are the reading i get now.

3517 kbps 991 kbps
Line Attenuation 64.5 db 35.5 db
Noise Margin 10.00 db 0.5 db

Not really much else i can do i guess. I remember when i was with talk talk they would change the line profile to a lower DB dont know if virgin do anything like that but i doubt it hey

Your down SNR of 10 db is pretty high, the standard profile is normally 6db, though if your attenuation is 64.5 even with your internal wiring as it should be, then you must have a very long line or a line with a fault somewhere, so 10db may be ncessery to keep things stable!

Do you have a router supported by DMT tool (German page i'm afraid but just search for your make and model and see if it comes up: http://dmt.mhilfe.de/), if so you can potentially tweak your down SNR that your router tries to sync at, so if you;re at 10db, reduce it by about 70% and try and make it sync at 3db.

For me, 3db is perfectly stable, but then my attenuation is 43db.

If you can find a better SNR you're still stable at (try pingtest.net etc, make sure you aren't loosing packets) then perhaps Virgin will lower it for you.

For the record, you can do all this with BE yourself using their website.
