Righto lads, time to pick your brains a little, im wanting a new wheelset for my On-One 456, im hammering my current wheels and they just dont cut it now, they are Mavic Crossrides, they were ok on my previous bike but this one no no no.
So im wanting something thats stronger, slightly lighter than the crossrides if possible, the ability for the front to take a 9mm thru axle as sold by on-one and superstar and others, 6 bolt disc fittings. Lets see what you lot can come up with, oh yea on the cheap side if possible.

If you go for the EX729 rim's they'll be even stronger. If you're not too worried about keeping them light. Have 729's on my HT rear and front.. They do take a beating!!

Posted a few pics of my current build a good few weeks ago.. well it's taken shape now;

Still a few tweaks to make but you get the idea. Will be ready for a trip to N.Wales for 5days on Saturday. Can't wait :D
Can post the spec if anyones interested.

Hmm thats pretty cheap considering, plus they have to be lighter than these 2 year old crossrides ive got and miles stronger, these flat blade spokes are useless :(
I've got some Crossrides and they have taken a fair bit of punishment over the 3 years I've had them. I use them as my general training wheels now.

Considering they cost just over £100 they are good value.

Oh yea dont get me wrong they are amazing little wheels, but for what im doing on this bike they cant take much more, ill look into those hopes and mavic rims and see what i can come up with.

I bought some Hope Hoops after a lot of debating, Pro 2 front and back with dt5.1 rims.

Not the lightest pair in the world but I no longer have to worry about my poor riding technique taking out my wheels :D

Quick answer, the 705 can "follow" tracks (gpx), routes (gpx) or courses (tcx). For road riding I generate gpx routes and provided you have routable maps on the unit they will navigate you like a car sat nav.
For off-road riding I generate gpx tracks or download other peoples gpx tracks from Garmin Connect or other websites. Personally I don't choose the navigate option with gpx tracks, instead I just make them visible on the map and follow them manually.
A course can be used to navigate on the road or off road, more useful if you've a set ride that you do and you want to race against yourself as it has a virtual partner you can race.

I "acquire" the Garmin maps or for me www.gpsfiledepot.com is great for free topo, another source is http://garmin.na1400.info/routable.php

6th, Is the Edge 705 compatible with custom maps?
Mobile atlas creator is an awesome piece of software and creates a kmz file. But can not get the device to see the map.
Any help?

HI dudes,

had an off on saturday morning on super slippy paving slabs. I wasn't even tricking out, just went to turn left with a slight lean and BANG, front goes away and off I roll. But, I wasn't braced for impact so I literrally stopped dropped and rolled, almost back onto my feet. Slight graze on my elbow and hurt my wrist a little.

In other news, the bike, which I was more worried about, escaped pretty unharmed too bar a slight rip in the saddle and a scratch on the handlebar end cap.

Saddle wise, I was looking to replace it anyway. A few months ago, a new saddle brand came on the market and everyone was raving about them but I can't remember the name for the life of me. Anyone know who I might be talking about?

The one saddle thats been popular for our shop has been the prologo kappa ti 2, good price at £50. Ain't as light as an sdg ti fly but is quite a bit cheaper.

The 705 has to use Garmin compatible maps. All of the maps on gpsfiledepot are "custom", but built to be garmin compatible.

Thanks again, Ive done all that, these GPS devices are not compatible with UK OS maps.
Seems a bit pointless in a navigation sort of way, especially for mountain biking.

Its to do with vector and raster graphics. :(

I'll have a play!

The Heckler had some much needed TLC tonight. Took the swingarm bearings out and they wouldn't even turn in my hand.:o New bearings went in and....omnomnom; My rear shock magically doesn't need serviced any more! :o :D

I just installed that map that I linked, for a free map it's great, topo and routable!
