What new card is this? I've not been keeping up too much since I got the GTX 460

Nope completely wrong.

The GTX 580 at same clock speeds as a 480 will be faster, its a completely new core. ;)
More ROPS, More TMU's and more Shaders, it all adds up. :)

Yes but as shown in the reviews, it is only 15% faster but it is overclocked by 10% hence only 5% faster clock per clock.

I know it has more ROPS, TMUS and shaders but it only equates to a 5% gain. 5% gain for 23% more money than a gtx480.

However, that is always the case for the fastest gpu you can buy, value for money is never one of the reasons for buying one ;)
 
It's the proposed Fermi, 14 months late, despite the spins added to it.
It's on a REVISED core. As in the sense the GF104 is a revise of the GF100. The same applies.
