Gone from OcUK Titan Sabre, to Apple iMac i7... I want to go back!

Make sure it's a decent brand PSU ;)
There are many cases to choose from, would you like a compact quiet one? Could go with a cheaper motherboard too, the crosshair IV is a lovely board but if you don't plan to crossfire, I would get something cheaper.

Yeah I thought I may be going a bit overkill with the motherboard - only reason I chose it was the good reviews and the SATA III/USB 3.0 connectivity. Would definitely consider cheaper with the same connectivity, which could go into the PSU cost, as I'm surprised looking at how expensive they are! What kind of wattage should I be looking at? GPU-wise I reckon I'll probably end up wanting one of the new cards that are on the way - the GTX 580 or the 69xx series, so not sure how much power I'm going to require...

How much for your iMac? :p

Hah. I have no idea. A copout, yes... I really am rubbish at re-sales and from past experience usually under-value out of politeness!
I mean what is the going rate for a 2 month old mint condition 2.93 i7 27" iMac w/ 2TB HDD & 8GB RAM, covered 'til September 2013 under AppleCare...?!?!?! :D

This should be enough: http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CA-032-OC&groupid=701&catid=123&subcat=
And a motherboard with USB 3.0 and SATA III: http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MB-133-MS&groupid=701&catid=5&subcat=1782
£100 saved :p
As for the cases, how about the Fractal Design R3? http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CA-010-FD&groupid=701&catid=7&subcat=1556
There is also Artic White, Silver Arrow and Black Pearl coloured versions of it as well.

I was so close to falling into this trap, luckily a good mate of mine talked me out of doing it :) good luck with selling your iMAC.

On the plus side you can use the screen as a pretty epic external display

Hows this look?
I know the monitor is 24", but its same res as the larger 27" and its got the benefit of being IPS, included SSD and gone with i7 option with a 470, if you want the option of adding a 2nd later (you shouldnt need 2 at this point) you prob want a bigger PSU (750 should do, but Id prob go 850 to be safe - unneccessary but on this sort of budget for sake of a tenner Id rather have the extra headroom)
If you want any more ideas, have a read of my thread at top of page/in my sig

When you consider the fact the 27" iMac has a beautiful IPS screen that is apparently the same LG panel as the one in this...

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MO-041-DE&groupid=17&catid=1120&subcat=

...you realise the iMac isn't horrendous value for money. I wouldn't by one, mind you :). You might have regrets going back to a cheap TN panel, though.

I do realise that the iMac screen is pretty amazing, and it's not so much that I think the iMac is horrendous value for money - I just miss knowing that I can upgrade, and I don't like the thought of what £2200 could have bought me in a PC system!
To be honest - when I had a PC the monitor I had was a cheap-as-chips Viewsonic, and I was really happy with it, so I don't think I'll suffer too much as long as I stick with a 27" screen... The Hanns.G 27.5 seems to get nothing but glowing reviews so hopefully I'll be fairly happy with it.

i did the exact same thing, but luckily i realised it before the return policy time ran out and was able to get a full refund on the iMac.. i had the same model as you too, but not as many upgrades, still it was a £1900 machine.

went back to windows and im glad i did

Thanks a lot for this - only thing is, I think I'd like to stick with the AMD Phenom II X6 1090T... Overclocked to 4.00GHz surely it will be a beast?
Could you check this basket out and let me know your thoughts? I still need to find a case to house all this! I've added an 850w PSU as from your suggestion as I think I'd like the option of crossfiring in the future... I've managed to get the total price down to £1100 believe it or not for all the above from another source, but that isn't including delivery...
Any help appreciated.

Looks good, have you thought about getting 2 Samsung F3 1tb hard drives, as these will come to around £80 ~ and there would be virtually no performance loss.

Thanks, hadn't checked those out...
Do you have any idea as to a case that would house all this? I've managed to select everything else based on research/reviews, but it's proving difficult to pick the right case that would have enough room etc..

I live by two simple rules...

Portability = Apple (I have a MacBook Pro + iPhone 4)

Desktop = Mac Pro 2009 (sig)

The best of both worlds ;)

Fixed.

The mentality generally on this forum is looking for the best performance for the least money. This has NEVER been Apple's point at all.

I personally have a Mac Pro, MacBook Pro and an iPhone because, (yes I am going to use this phrase), it just works.

If you can't see the benefit of having OS X and a Mac, fine, it's not your cup of tea and clearly it isn't the OPs, because one of his requirements is a decent GPU, which only the MP offers, and even then it's a generation behind.

:)

Agreed. I can definitely see the benefits of OSX and Mac - if I could afford to splash out on a ****-hot Mac Pro with the 27" display then I wouldn't hesitate to do it.
I've been browsing eBay to get an idea of the going rate for a used iMac. The only one I could find that is current-gen is actually pretty similar to mine... 2 months old, mint condition, 2.93 i7 27"... Only difference is theirs has 4GB of RAM, and a 256GB SSD, but no standard HDD. Mine has 8GB of RAM, and a 2TB standard HDD, but no SSD. Also I don't think theirs has the 3 year AppleCare plan, which mine does. They have it listed at £1995! I would not list it that high personally... What do you guys reckon? I was thinking closer to £1600? With £1600 I wouldn't make a massive loss as I got HE Discount...

A few seem to be going around the £1500-1600 area.

I'd put it on at £1499 with a £1699 BIN.

Just PLEASE put a proper advert up, lots of pictures, nice description etc.

I know the description makes a difference because I used to be able to buy things with **** descriptions and sell them a few months later for more than I bought it for :D

AMD X6 = pointless for gaming

i7 = Best CPU for gaming.

No games use 6 cores yet and the X6 is just an X4 with 2 cores slapped on.

I actually would have liked having the i7 950 3.06GHz, as I have been impressed with the hyperthreading on iMac... Is the processor I'm referring to able to be safely OC'd as much as the AMD X6 1090T??
The only thing holding me back from having an Intel system is the cost - not so much the processor, but the motherboard. I'm having trouble finding one that was a reasonable price with SATA 6GB/s & USB3...
