....and even at one point I think we were looking at his results on the Isle of Wight autocross circuit.

Which were by anyone's standards, rather poor.

I think someone asked Mike to post a couple of 'standard' results, i.e. anything with him not in the bottom 2 slots.

Here's hoping :)

If I can't stretch to a Vauxhall I was thinking a Trabant might serve the purpose as that Joe Don Baker had one on Bond and they are light so might carry big speed on the autotest and with an engine in the back are much the same as a 911.

I will let you in on a not very well known secret, John Deere tractors are in fact a viable Mercedes alternative, due to the sprung drivers seat!

Bet you didnt know that!

I think its pretty clear there has been huge fail on Mike's part and that he is not now buying this EK9, given how vocal he normally is, how he's active on the forums, yet how he's completely ignoring this thread. I suspect he's also hoping nobody will notice the comments made by our newer members over the last couple of threads regarding yet more inconsistencies.

Mike never replies to 'uncomfortable' posts, just ask Simon.

Just looking through that IOW Car Club website, interesting how Mike actually fails to be middle table quite a few times:-

To be fair he did point out that Autotesting favours smaller cars.

Oh, like a Corsa.

And this one isnt fair either, it was probably his car. Oh wait is that somebody else half way up the table in exactly the same car - as in, the actual car Mike used?

Plus others that have been mentioned.

I think we have a porky pie in our midst ladies and gentleman.

Come on MikeHIOW bite me.

ps how are the mortgage repayments going?

Jock Gav has come out fighting with a flurry of blows.... Mike in the yellow shorts is reeling... surely this must be it.... can he regain his composure and step back up... the Great Isle of White Hope...

There's no doubt it's a much better car than a 205, but then it would be, it's a decade younger.

I'm afraid you've awoken the 205 GTI fanboy in me with this.

In which aspects exactly is a standard/nearly standard EK9 "much better" than the sort of 205 you could buy for circa 2k (16V engine conversion, sorted suspension, limited slip diff and quite possibly ITBs and Coilovers)?

If you're going to go down the route of saying with it being 10 years younger so it's going to be better ergonomically/is more comfortable I'm going to laugh. Mike wants a raw "toy", and I'm somewhat doubtful that the Civic has an interior and controls to rival a Bentley.

So let me get this right...

Mike travels hundreds of miles to have a passenger ride in an EK9 but doesn't buy it and travels back home? Or am I missing something?

He had a passenger ride in his mates EK9 who apparently lives near him, despite the fact he hinted and lead us to believe he had actually driven his mates EK9.

The one he wants/wanted to buy is hundreds of miles away and he proclaimed it was a minter - despite not actually having ever seen it.

Ah gotcha. So he's made an offer on the EK9 forum despite not having seen the car or having driven one. :D

I'm all up to date I guess. Where's the popcorn?

Looks like someone else on the EK9 forum has made an offer on the car, probably better than Mike's lowball offer.

How many days before we find out what the new best car in the world is do we reckon?

Ok, I'll bite.

Not that I've ever claimed to be good at AT, I'll justify the ones you've posted.

Novelty of the BMW was far too tempting, I was far more concerned with having fun sideways than placing a bit higher.

Doesn't seem too bad for a first attempt in a 1.4 Corsa?

First time driving the car with the full throttle shift system being a bit crap (touch the clutch at all, and you're instantly limited to 4000RPM).

Bit more used to the Strada, 0.5 seconds off my Dad in the same car.

Not as good, but no where near the bottom:
http://iowcc.emagine-internet.co.uk/?season_id=4&event_id=19

http://iowcc.emagine-internet.co.uk/?season_id=5&event_id=31
http://iowcc.emagine-internet.co.uk/?season_id=5&event_id=32

Taking round my then <1 year old VXR and taking it a bit easy, not a bad result considering
http://iowcc.emagine-internet.co.uk/?season_id=7&event_id=42

Similar story with the Focus
http://iowcc.emagine-internet.co.uk/?season_id=8&event_id=54

But the heavy VXR/Focus aren't really suited to this kind of thing, even when pushing it. Traction is a virtue.

I didn't realise you were in a position to criticise? You must be a seasoned autotester, right?

Did no one tell the White Van man that or the Subaru drivers?

That white van is a Pinto engined MK1 Escort van and is a weapon.

Subarus work well as the 4WD offers awesome traction out (And obviously a lot of power) of the tight bends etc.

Thanks.

You've managed to ignore every sensible question like did you buy the car and what's happening now?

Update on the car buying please!
