Leeds or Sheffield where would you chose to live?

leeds and sheffield are pretty similar tbh.

my choice would be leeds though and the fact that the office is out of town makes it an even better choice

do you really want to be driving into and parking in a city centre every day ? especially sheffield centre

I would live in the centre of either location and use public transport or walk.
 
I'd have to say leeds then mate. I'm from and live in yorkshire and Leeds is the one I would choose, if you fancy a trip to sheffield its just a quick train ride, or to york...manchester...london...newcastle!
 
I work in leeds city centre Simon and i've worked in Sheffield before

I'd definately say leeds.

TBH i cant think of anywhere nice and affordable to live in Leeds , there are a couple of nice places but mostly well out of the city.

Go for the greenest city in the England, Sheffield !!

Almost anywhere south or west of the city is best but are more expensive than the other areas.

Anywhere though is just a short drive to the Peak District National Park.
 
I commute to leeds from Wakefield

much more affordable housing, and theres a bus service that runs ever 10 minutes and gets you to leeds city centre bus station in about 30 / 40 minutes depending on where you get on.

Theres also Outwood station which has regular trains to leeds station and takes about 10 minutes.
 
Sheffield is good but Leeds is loads better.

Been in Leeds since 03 now. Loads of stuff going on, feels like its 10 years ahead of Sheffield and S Yorkshire in general
 
I've lived in Sheffield for a year, got friends up in Leeds and been up there a lot. Before moving to Sheffield I had in my head that Leeds was a better place to live, now am very glad to be in Sheffield.

I've taken the train up to Leeds a few times, and on walking out the station I always think 'euwwrk'. Walking up Albion Street it just gets worse. The centre feels cramped, dated and dirty. Stark contrast to what you see as you come out the station in Sheffield, and walk into the centre, up Fargate. (yes 'The Moor' is run down, but only to a similar state to parts of what I've seen of Leeds).

Transport in Leeds seems a joke, trying to get from one side of the city to the other is pain - and all the roads seem to be half dug up. Had great fun getting from the M1 up to Horsforth at the weekend.

Drinking in Leeds seems more expensive (on average) to nights out in Sheffield.

What do you want out of the city? Nightlife? Access to countryside? A big wheel?

Leeds is bigger and better equipped but is out of town, sheffield is a small office in the centre) and have no friends/ family in either location

I think living in the city centre is great, more chance to meet people and go see / do things. If you lived on the outskirts of Leeds, you'd be away from it's centre.. *yawn* or live in the centre and commute out to work.. that'll be fun with Leeds' transport system. If you lived in the centre of Sheffield, you' be where all the people are and could walk to work.
 
I live in headingley and travel into Leeds centre everyday. It takes 30-40mins on the bus in rush hour which is about the same time it will take you in a car. Its a great city to work, live and go out. Many bars and clubs opening and closing all the time, plus there other areas such as chapel allerton and headingley to go if you get bored. Quite a few warehouse/warehouse type clubs if ure into that thing - beaverworks, warehouse, victoria works, west indian centre etc

Lots of nice smart bars and student places too
 
Thanks for the all the help, the annoying thing is there appears to be no massive distinguishing difference between the two.

The problem with living outside of Leeds is the place of work is also outside of Leeds center meaning I would have to commute into Leeds then back out again to Wakefield Rd, Leeds, West Yorkshire LS10 3TP
 
Sheffield is a bit smaller, greener, friendlier, cheaper. Leeds is a a bit trendier. Sheffield has some nice underground clubs and record labels, Leeds is a bit more mainstream. Having lived in Carlisle, Sheffield, Leeds, Huddersrfield, Brighton and London i'd pick Sheffield personally.

Leeds can get a bit oppressive on a night out, never seen that in Sheffield.

There's not much difference between them, but I felt Sheffield was safer, more relaxed and a better place to live. I really enjoyed the easy access to the peak district in Sheffield also.

I work round the corner in LS10 1BG :D

The Arriva Bus Service 110 runs outside there to from wakefield / leeds every 10 minutes.

Seriously need to look at living in wakefield and commuting into leeds. First Direct is not far from the wakefield / leeds border either.

Alternative you can commute from Leeds City Centre, somewhere like Clarence Dock.

But you'll be getting a 1 bed flat for the same price as a 3 Bed house in wakefield however, leeds city centre property isn't cheap.
