Do you recognise these student rioters?

Im digging the bobble hat bloke lol. Bobble hats have always made me chuckle lol. Goes right back to when my great nan used one to keep her teapot warm lol.

hahahah. This thread is turning out to be highly amusing for such a serious national issue. Yeah I agree; feel like pulling on his bobble hat and giving him a slap lol :D. The whole protest reminds me of 'state of emergency' game. Now that was a funny game :p.

It was Tory HQ being damaged, nor a random McD branch ...

And that makes it acceptable?

Why did he have a hammer?

Yes and no.

We have a a government made up of politicians who were educated for free, claim expenses that are frankly unjustifiable (still).

We have that very same government basically ignore the student protest, the prime minister decided that it was more important to be on the other side of the world in China / South Korea rather than deal with a pretty major domestic issues, an issue where he's in the wrong in my eyes (and I'm a Tory).

If Cameron had the balls he would have been in London on the day and addressed the students to justify the cuts that he was making.

If you have a march, and the government basically completely ignores what you have to say (hell, the prime minister feels that he doesn't even need to be in the country at the time), then perhaps it is time to take it up a notch.
Which is why I said, it was the Tory HQ that they attacked ... so it was not random violence, but frustration possibly at the Tories deciding that the student march is not important enough for the PM to even be in the country.

You mean privately owned property being leased to the Conservative Party, amongst others.
Doesn't matter who owns it, it was being used by the Tories. Anyone leasing the property to the party would be aware of the potential for protest/riots near it.

Zombie has arisen:eek:. The newpaper is so wrong portraying him as an innocent protester with a cut on his hand caught up in the middle:mad:. Time for 'Left4Dead3':D.

I have a sneaky suspicion the police undermanned it on purpose, a case of "oh you want to cut out budget do you?". but i am a suspicious kind of guy.

On the one hand, it's disappointing that the protest got out of hand, but, on the other, it's refreshing to see this level of anger expressed publicly. The rest of us have had to sit and take it as we get shafted due to years of the country being mismanaged, so it's about time the government saw some of the repercussions.

I have no doubt that the people responsible for smashing up Millbank Tower have next to no real interest in the university fees issue, but it seemed more of a general statement about the wider issues facing people in the UK. It's all very reminiscent of the 2000 May Day protests, with unrelated anti-establishment rioting kicking off on the back of someone else's protest.

rypt, Cameron was over there for the G20 meetings. Slightly more important than a few students who have totally misunderstood the rise in fees. He's not off on a wee jolly around the World. It's not a summer holiday.
He has justified the cuts, countless times and justified the need for higher fees. He's also pointed out that many people will be better of and many will pay less than they currently do.
The government hasn't ignored what people have said, but there are other things that need to be done. These students aren't the only people in the country/World and there are countless other issues that need to be addressed.
It wasn't just the Tory HQ that was attacked, members of the police, peoples cars, etc etc were attacked.
These people who committed the crimes against property/people are morons. It's as black and white as that.

I have a sneaky suspicion that our police once again demonstrated just how incompetent they really are at any major operation.
The last time they did something properly was the anti-globalisation protest, and even then there was plenty of damage.

So what's the alternative?

Those in government who were educated for free had no control over the government of the day.

When the peaceful student protest gets hijacked and becomes violent, I'd much rather the government ignore it than start to back down. That sends out a very dangerous message, that being violent will get you what you want, which cannot be allowed to happen.

I think the summit in South Korea and the visit to China ARE more important to the country than a hijacked student protest, personally.

What? So the possibility of something happening means that it's okay for it to happen?

NO foreign issue (save your country being at war) should ever take priority over a domestic issue.

He could have round tripped it and not spent the day chatting to Chinese students.

You're just wrong though. Simple as that.

This isn't wasn't a 'domestic issue' on the scale of a terrorist attack or otherwise. It was a bunch of students/idiots smashing things up because they had the opportunity to do so over an issue which many of them clearly don't understand too well.

I dunno, I dare Cameron to have it calculated using his new method for fees how much his education should have cost and then pay that money to the government "you know, lead by example".
Equally, he needs to cut the silly expenses system far more

How Am I wrong, what did he achieve in China on THAT day? He was there meeting Chinese students afaik, he could have left the day before, come to UK, addressed the student protest, gone to G20 ... and not actually missed anything important.
