AMD HD6970 guaranteed to beat GTX580, according to sources

Lets say this is right.
Lets say it is faster than 580GTX.
Lets say its faster by 5% and cheaper £350. Best case scenario.
Still major fail as they missed the Christmas shopping period.
You want to be at home enjoying your gfx card over Christmas and not wait for a delivery on 1 JAN.

Lets wait for it to be late before declaring it's late

While its always nice to have anything as soon as possible, missing the xmas sales period means nothing, it means even less if it turns out theres only a few thousand 580gtx's which are almost sold out and won't have anything else till post xmas aswell.

The simple fact is, if they sell a million 6970's, it doesn't really matter if they sell 3 this month and 999,999 cards 3 days before the 7970 launches, its still a million sales.

The 480gtx missed xmas, and then some, it really didn't effect overall sales that much purely because as a £350-450 card at various points after its release, it just wasn't a high volume product, those that wanted them still got them.

Again its worth pointing out, an NDA expires on the 13th, maybe, Fudzilla again claims close sources have confirmed a story, he's read elsewhere and shows no proof of.

What happens if the 580gtx dries up, 5k are sold worldwide before Jan, and AMD launches 50k cards on the 13th all of which sell out by the 20th, who failed in your opinion at that point, in mine, neither.

Nothing except missing out on the large Christmas buying period.

It won't be a million sales if a massive chunk of those sales are going to be made before Christmas and AMD doesn't have a product in the performance and price bracket people are interested in. Let's hope the delay story's fake. :(

Can someone name another forum which is reasonably well populated to discuss things like this on?

Who would buy someone a graphics card for 350/400 pound for a Christmas present? Not many I would imagine apart from the extremely well off.

Although I guess a lot of people around Christmas are like me and use it as an excuse to buy a present for myself :p But still I imagine it wouldn't mean a great loss in sales.

I can't imagine anyone buying a high end GPU for a christmas present. I think its more usual for someone to avoid the christmas rush economy and wait for new years sales for buying themselves something like this.

I can, me:D

I don't really think computer hardware benefits from Christmas/January sales

You can't by high end GPU's at M&S:)

guys we should not speculate about the 6970, we should wait for the real and legit stats with proof, we will make ourselves look like asses when the real ones do come out.
