ride like they have nothing to live for ?

I've been commuting into North London for the last few weeks and the stuff I've seen bikers do has really amazed me. They seem to have no idea or couldn't careless about the highway code. I know it's not just the bikers, you get them drivers cars too but the shear percentage of bikers I see doing this. I've seen them veering down the road, speeding, swerving between traffic, riding down the wrong side of the road, riding through red lights and overtaking while the car in front is trying to let another car out - this nearly ends in the bikes riding straight into the cars bonnet as it cuts across the lane to make a right turn.

I've also seen all these adverts recently that say "think bike !" that's aimed at car drivers, from what I've seen these are aimed at the wrong people. Car drivers don't care about bikes, they're bigger, the worst they'll get is a dent. The bikers though are likely to get squished and from what I've seen it's usually the bike performing an illegal manoeuvre or overtaking which is done at their own risk anyway.

What makes it worse they seem to think they're in the right, although could have been a one off incident. I had one biker moan earlier in the week, my dad stopped at a pedestrian crossing when the lights turned red, a moped driving down the wrong side of the road stops at the lights to the right of the car. As they turn green my dad pulls away faster than the bike, as the bike catches up a bike following it looks in the window and says "how big does he feel for trying to race a moped off the lights", he wasn't but it meant the moped was stuck on the wrong side of the road with on coming traffic. At which point I told him to **** off and to get on the right side of the ****ing road.

What I can't understand is why they ride so recklessly knowing they're so fragile through car drivers who half the time don't see them, if it was me I'd be ****ting my self ?

Couldn't agree more, and yet its the car drivers that get the grief when anything happens. All the advertising is aimed at car drivers, not bikers telling them to not ride like a tool.

Your sat in a cage and have seen some irresponsible riders, i sit on a bike a see not only irresponsible riders but also irresponsible car drivers and push bike riders who are just as bad if not worse. The thing to remember is that although we only remember the idiots we see, there are a lot of good riders/drivers out there else it would be total carnage!

Not all bikers ride like idiots look at the amount of cars on the roads vs bikes on the roads they are out numbered, and you look at the amount of idiot car drivers you see each day so if you look at that number into bikes it figures you are going to see a lot of bikes driving like idiots. And the reason the advertising is aimed at cars is the exact reason in the ads car drivers are used to looking for big metal things with two head lights and not a little plastic things no bigger width wise than a person with one head light and the bikers always on the look out for drivers that don't see them. I can guarantee on my way home from work in rush hour traffic there will be at least 3 or 4 drivers that wont even see me and that's why they what bikers call filter when you see them over taking stationary traffic is we just want to get out the way of the cars. again back to the idiots some are idiots like some car drivers but some are just normal so please don't label all bikers idiots if you have no idea what its like as a biker

I'm yet to see a motorcyclist on the A38 doing the speed limit. Even when it's pouring down with rain, they bomb past in the outside lane like they have a death wish.

And that's no exaggeration. I'm still waiting to overtake a bike on the A38. I've done tens of thousands of miles on that road.

Tute if you had a car that had the power to wight ratio of a F1 car would you drive the speed limit all the time and not go a bit mad sometimes

Isn't that a bit of a retarded comment given that F1 drivers (that you could argue are the best in the world) crash all the time?

Speed limit is the legal maximum speed. I happen to think 70mph is a bit slow but the rules are there.

How is a fact retarded i am not saying it has the power accelaration or top speed of a F1 car what is retaded is you cant read a comment mglover070588 what i said is they have a power to wight ration of a f1 car which means for the 5 to 10 K you pay for a bike your getting the perfomance you would pay for a car a couple of 100K

And your telling me you never go over 70mph ???????

I love bikers. I used to have absolute hatred of the way they filter through traffic when i started driving and thought it was somehow illegal. But now I've stopped bothering myself over them and actually thinking about it, my driving style has changed to accommodate them.

Also, I thought the Think! Bike posters were meant for bikers, reminding them to drive properly. That way it made more sense to me anyway.

This is true, I followed a BMW driver about 2 weeks ago who did everything he could to drive fast through the traffic, he was weaving through lanes, going through lights and driving down side roads to skip queuing traffic. He really didn't care about anyone else's safety.

The thing with car drivers is they have a nice metal cage to keep them safe and at these low speeds not very likely to get hurt. Bikers on the other hand go to even further lengths to get through traffic regardless of safety/law, and most car drivers only look what's in front of them not expecting traffic overtaking when manoeuvring. With this in mind I would have thought they would be more careful

Cars can speed too you know, might take longer to get there, so I don't see how this is a relevant excuse for bikes to exceed the speed limit.

And thats why there is the think bike adverts like you said most car drivers only look forward. and as i was saying not all bikers are the same i dont sit in traffic i filter but i do it safely and some dont

Isn't getting a wave from a biker as they pass you in traffic having successfully seen them approaching from meters behind and already got out of their way one of the most rewarding aspects of city driving?

to be honest thepedster we feel just as rewared that you seen us and allowed us to pass safely and thats why we say thank you out of respect the same reason bikers nob or wave to each other its out of respect

Filtering through stopped/slow traffic at 30-40mph can't be safe yet some do it every day and rev their engines to intimidate anyone who dare block their way, they also come up from a mile away and get angry that someone decided to change lane and block their path, never mind they weren't even a speck in the mirror before that car driver decided to change lane.. this Friday i saw one biker launch at the lights in wet wet conditions and end up going a different direction from his bike when it went sideways, luckily he got up and was ok but the sheer dumbness of it amazed me.

as i have protested in this post some are idiots some are not like car drivers i am just trying to say dont lable all bikers like that coz i am one that isnt

When i first read your post Justintime i thought you did but after re reading i understand you were giving a example but others in this post think they bikers are all the same
