How is this 3d package?

Many people who have used 3D have not liked it,but its worth getting a 120hz screen anyway especially for gaming imo. After having a 120hz screen i hardly use Vsync now as there is no tearing visible hardly.

The package you have mind will be fine,be warned though when running some high graphical games in 3D, at max 3D settings the GTX 480 struggles a little apparently.

I have a gloss screen and it works perfectly well in day light.

Find it cheaper can you?

Monitor looks decent value being 120hz and all, 470 is a bargain, and the 3D vision is priced OK.

3D Vision isn't worth the cost, considering especially that chris_uk333 already has a 5850 which means moving to a 470 is just a sidegrade. £280 for a TN monitor as well, in my opinion TN screens just aren't very nice to look at.

But, £600 to move to a new set up that will result in lesser performance just isn't worth it.

To the OP have you actually tried 3D Vision much?

For once I'm with Kylew on this one... I all but guarantee you won't consider it worth the money after the initial novelty has worn off - speaking as someone who has the Samsung 2233rz and nVidia 3D Vision kit, the only redeeming factor for me - infact why I even got it at all - was that the 120Hz panel is very nice for FPS gaming.

Unfortunately, it won't quite be like that. For one when playing games in 3D, your FPS is cut in half completely, secondly the cinema systems use a different method of 3D than the nVidia 3D Vision one does. If your 5850 is struggling in any games you play, you'll be getting terrible performance with a GTX470 in 3D due to the FPS being cut in half.

Agree! Tried 3D in my friends house, thought before it would be as in cinema, but it's not ... it creates 3D world inside monitor ... so subjects won't fly to u like in cinema!

But... I found it great! GTX280 could cope with bioshock 2, l4d2, MW1/2 with no problem (not sure about maxed settings tho)

but as mentioned above, would not spend £600

Things do come out at you if you set it up correctly.
I feel its definitely worth it and the 470 is fine! I was using a single 470 and all the games I play using 3D and they all ran very well. I upgraded to SLI due to an offer on the 470s so couldn't resist, not for better 3D performance.

IMO 3D vision is awesome & its a shame that people would encourage someone not to even try it.

I see no problem with trying it, I see a problem spending £600 just to try it though. I've used it and I think it's good, but there's no chance I'm forking the monies out to get it, considering I've already got a 5870 and 3x Dell 2408s and they weren't cheap. :p

My point about performance though is that a 5850 is on par with a 470, so playing games in 3D with a 470 will feel slower than with a 5850.

Probably depends on how you look at it.
I would much rather play a 3d vision ready game at medium settings in 3d than on high in 2d. For me its that much better. Its the ultimate setting. Forget tesselation, better lighting. If it means having these off to check the play in 3d box that is my choice everytime.
I had a gtx 260, and bought a 5870 at the same time as my 3d vison. It turns out that i played all games that worked well in 3d on the gtx 260, even though i could turn up settings for the latest games on the 5870.
So yes it is very expensive if you have to buy a gtx580 to enjoy it. But if you just buy the monitor and glasses, for around the price of the new gtx 580 and already own a capable nvidia card you get the best in my opinion which is 3d. It is so obvious and emmersive, for me more so than setting a few sliders to tesselate, anti aliasing, ssao and slightly higher textures (which arent quite so dramatic and often overlooked, some friends dont even see the difference or class it as insignificant).
The best would be to have gtx 580 so you can have 3d and highest settings. But given the choice of losing my 480@910core but having 3d on my 460, or keeping the 480 and losing the 3d vision i would keep the 3d.
Also as stated by someone else, you gain a 120hz screen which for gaming especially fps games, feels like another upgrade. Once you have the screen and the glasses, you have them, you will prbably still have them when you come around to buying another gfx card, this time installing it and knowing you already have 3d to test out on the latest games on highest setting.

Moral of my story is, you dont need to buy an expensive gfx card to enjoy 3d. In my opinion a good 3d game on medium looks far better and feels more emmersive than the same game on high in 2d.

You can also get crazy pop out, even more so than the cinema. You just need to sit down for a while and play around with convergence. Because i am used to 3d vision the cinema 3d now feels dissapointing as it has nowhere near the same depth and pop out in relation to the size of the screen. When i read people with negetive thoughts on the 3d it baffles me. I just think they are the minority as this is the most significant thing for games and gfx since i got my first 3dfx game.

It has not got old after over a year. I dont use it all the time, as it isnt 100% with all games. I also dont play my mp fps competetively with it. But then again, i dont use the full power of my gtx 480 all the time as 90 percent of games run fine on half its horsepower.

Phil.
