GPU hot hot hot!

Hi Guys,

I have a Geforce 8800GT and have only used it for video processing recently. I decided to play a newer game. I noticed that my card was running under load at 75 degrees C

I'm worried that this is too hot and I'm sure it never used to run this hot. I've given it a clean but it hasn't improved the temperatures.

Is this normal?

I've used rivatuner to see the temperatures but I have 2 types. Ambient and another one. I've been observing the loest temp in my readings.

Any help apreciated.

its fine. dont let it go over 80c.

nothing to worry about, try adding another fan near it to blow the heat out of your case, other than that it should be alright

I've just saw MSI afterburner so assume this is a replacement for rivatuner? I've downloaded that at without load its showing 65 degrees. IS that not a little hot?

Just wondering how you guys maintain your temps? Regular cleaning inside?

Shouldn't really get above 60C idle tops - more like upper 40s.

Is this one of the original 8800GT that had too small a fan inlet? if its <80C at load tho its not too big a problem.

my 8800GT original small fan runs idle at 68.

always been a hot runner. though granted its probably on its way out nd has been for a year. its an EVGA Super Clocked at 700mhz.

I have an 8800gt in my second system, it too idled at 60c, though in game (COH) according to afterburner it was only hitting 63c.

Ok I just rebooted the computer. Left it at the login screen for 5 minutes, logged in and ran MSI afterburner. Immediatly the temperature was 72! As soon as MSI Afterburner launches the fan speeds up.

Does that mean theres an underlying fan control problem here?

always has been on the 8800gt.

turn on the fan profile in MSI Afterburner, should keep it nicely low.

8800gt was always a hot runner on stock fan. Pure bang for buck back when it was released though so a little heat wasn't really an issue
