HTC Desire HD (Ace)

Have you tried turning the internet off when you don't need it (as well as GPS etc)? And what about setting the brightness to auto?

I refuse to turn the internet off along with HTC sense syncing. If I lose my phone and the HTC sense service isn't synced or my internet is off it renders the great features of HTC sense useless.

I have though stopped the HTC sense service from using the data push method. Have set it to 2 hour updates instead, shall if that makes a difference.

Those angle shots aren't really representative as LCD suffers more with poor viewing angles than AMOLED. Face on I'd imagine the difference is less noticeable. Not trying to be a fanboy, but that's my guess.

That is a very good point, could you do a direct head on comparison if you get a chance Russinating? :)

I dont really see the fuss about viewing angles, you are viewing it directly 95% of the time anyway. Its a phone, not a TV.

Your wish is my command! And yes, certainly the difference is less obvious head-on.

It's not just having syncs on that'll use battery, but having internet always on means that the phone is constantly looking for signal, rechecking it, etc (which is why wifi uses less battery than 3G).

I see your point, but at the end of the day I have 77% battery left right now after unplugging at 8am, and that's quite common, so it really depends how much you value battery life!

Ah! Thats more like it, certainly nothing that would even close to bother me about that :D

Now I just have to hope Mobiles dont fail with stock and I get it soon, should be wednesday!

They really should keep their website update properly, it winds me up when looking to buy something online and it says an item in stock and after buying it, it infact isn't. Did Mobiles tell you after you ordered the phone that it was actually out of stock or did you get one reserved?

He said they are getting a large shipment in tomorrow morning that will clear all of the backorders and I'll get the phone wednesday. I got an email after I ordered saying it was out of stock.

It is a bit crafty, yes, but as long as they get a load in tomorrow its not much of a problem.

Russinating, do you mind running me through your exact setup on your DHD? That layout looks exactly what I need!

Course. Here's a screenshot to make it more obvious:

The only reason I've really paid for LauncherPro Plus is so you can change the size of widgets: I'm using 6 columns (hence the 6 close icons), and SwitchPro is stretched to the width instead of being too narrow. I also use the Plus widgets, but that was the original reason.

I have just read through the entire Desire HD battery thread on XDA and all of the links within it.

I have come to the conclusion that provided you set your phone up properly (and give the battery time to do a few charge cycles) you should be EASILY able to get 1.5-2 days use out of this phone. Worst case scenario you will be having to charge it every day but it wont be dying on you before late in the evening even with fairly heavy use.

If you are finding the battery to be very poor, give this a read when you have time - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=819266

2 days of occasionally checking emails... or under 4 hours web browsing on 3g?

You say potato, I say patatta, tomato, tomata. Oh let's call the whole thing off ;)
(or buy a spare battery to keep in your wallet, then its all good!)

Robbo if it helps i havent noticed any difference in battery usage compared to my old nexus one. Seems identical.

Another question Robbo does the SAMOLED screen suffer from being as useful as a choclate fire guard like AMOLED outside in the sun? My Nexus one was sooooo frustrating in summer outside,

I'm guessing the battery will be similar to my Desire, which is absolutely fine and I dont mind if its even a bit worse so no worries there.

Unlike LED, SAMOLED is absolutely awesome outside, its very clear and actually gives better visibility than the iPhone 4 screen (and other LCD screens I've tried)

Another point! Mugen are set to release a 1500-1800mAh battery at the end of November, that is the same physical size as the current one (so adds no extra bulk as that isn't possible due to the design of the phone) and would probably increase battery life by quite a bit.

Worth looking out for if you are a daily power user :p
