Hows this look guys? budget was £550 so its a little over. Might be able to stretch to this if you think its worth it. Need a reasonably future proof system that will play todays games.

Thanks

It doesn't require 650W, but presumably you don't want to have to replace your PSU completely when you upgrade, because your 460 won't cut it for ever. My point is more about quality, cheap PSU = death.

ya i do understand what your saying and take it all onboard. Wouldnt be thinking of upgrading for a good while after this build. the system im replacing has lasted a good few years.

You have not got a PSU in your basket!

He was making the point that many people fail to address, and skimp on a cheapy PSU that will more than likely give up the ghost or not provide adequate power if you upgrade to a SLI system etc

It would be a shame to buy those quality parts in your current basket and not be able to use them when the PSU goes "pop"

650W is middle of the ball park and leaves you with headroom to expand.

500W would run ok but would be pushing a SLI system

:)

I made the mistake in the past of buying a cheap PSU when I upgraded a few years :(
It's honestly worth it to get a decent one now :)

i beg your pardon, and do apologies, i presumed the PSU would be a decent make, as it came with the coolermaster case. Ive looked at it again and its just a generic one.
Could do with a decent looking case and power supply for around the 100 quid mark :( unless i dont go i5?

GET AN I7 :D:D:D

so much better.

Is this a serious post? It is a gaming rig, the op probably has a budget that he needs to stick by. The performance boost you could possibly get from an i7 is justified how when the price comes into the picture?

The i5 is just about ideal for gaming. I would really want to go with a branded PSU though. Not that I know that the one coming with the case is bad, I am not sure either way, but for peace of mind more than anything else.

yeah seen him recommending i7s on somespec me threads, i5 is still good for another 2-3 years maybe more, just no upgrade except for the i7 8xx

Well he said '''''''''''''Need a reasonably future proof system that will play todays games. ''''''''''''''''''

Won't be for long :P

Games have a long, long way to go until they can use the full power of an i7. In fact, I would be surprised if there was any game in the next three year that would run much better on an i7 than an i5. And even then, even if that mythical game should run better on an i7, it does by no means imply that the i5 will run it badly.

In the meantime, you are spending a lot more money for no performance gain. And that saved money should be spent on a better GPU, which will yield you better performance straight off and will continue to provide you this for its lifespan.

Choosing an i7 over an i5 when that means that you have to sacrifice GPU quality is wrong for anyone building a gaming rig.

LOL at thread :)

i7

£100 PSU in a £550 budget

The Coolermaster PSU bundled with that case will be absolutely 100% fine. It's hardly a £5 Chinese bomb is it, for heaven's sake.

Spec is pretty much perfect. Get cheaper 1600MHz RAM though...

The 460 is fine, but with the money saved on the RAM you could get this which is a stunning deal. Would have to be quick though, as they'll be gone fast...

OP can upgrade the PSU for a nice modular later when more cash is available if he really can't sleep at night thanks to all the scaremongering on here :). Also add a decent cooler at some point for the mandatory 4GHz overclock.

Right, I guessed at the budget, it now turns out that i have £650 to spend. Can anyone beat this? Baring in mind i have 12.50 to spare because i dont need shipping.
Thanks

yeah i can, swap the case and psu with the case+psu deal for £62 and put the money towards a gtx 470 and a cooler :p
