piracy on pc

Maybe if it wasnt £35 then it wouldnt have been downloaded so often?

Anyway, these people can only play a crippled game, if you havent got the full thing you cant get access to the blizzard network and all that entails.

1 problem with that number is that it is not 2.3 million users. Probably not even a 1/4 of that. How many are incomplete, do not work, virus ridden etc.

How many of these pirates will buy the full game though? If they like it and want to access the network games (a BIG draw) they will.

isn't starcraft all about the mp...so the torrented downloads aren't even a complete game.

bit like a demo, and if you like it then buy it.

reminds me of the "zomg loo kat cod piracy this is why pc only gets ports" thread which was followed by a quick check of some sites showing the console version downloaded 4 times as often as the pc.

True guys but it defo highlights the massive issue. also metalface mark, is £35 really that much? I was paying 50+ for snes games in the 90's, that was expensive!

Really?

Well here's a good reason not to release pc exclusives!

yeah £35 isn't at all much for a game considering the amount of hours you get out of it. we are too used to steam deals undercutting haha

you might get 500 hour or only 5 minutes depending ont he game though.

The large publishers manipulation of any kind of preview/review system means you cant trust them and even appalling games get incredibly high marks and previews full of lies.

Then the advertising/developer info gets released through ****y sources and they censor any kind of criticism or basically just lie some more, and it becomes impossible to tell what a game will be like without trying it.

Errr how long have you had a PC! Games should be £25 and for a new A++ release and drop to £17 in 3-6 months. But activision put there games as £35 to stop the moans from console boys paying £45 for their versions.

Such a shame as a lot of love clearly went into this game. Wonder if people were not ripping it off would it still be £35? then these people say they do it for that reason. Anyway this story annoyed the hell out of me.

Do you think people who downloaded it would think of buying it ?

It sold quite well for pc standards, I don't see the issue. Downloads does not even remotely mean lost sales.

 Are you joking or simply uninformed ?

If a games worth paying money for I will pay for it. If I wanna try it out see what it's like I don't see the harm in pirating it and either later deleting it because I'm not gonna play it or in fact going out and purchasing it.

nah the stats these people use will include anyone who downloaded 1 byte before giving up.

because using some crude mathematics (like theirs) you can tell they have simply divided the total traffic off the torrent by the size of the torrent.

Piracy is theft pure and simple. The games companies produce a product which has value. If you pirate it for nothing you are stealing their work. If I think a particular game is too expensive I will wait for the price to come down to what I am willing to pay rather than ripping it off.
