My New Car is a SRI 1.6 Turbo 180 bhp

crikey. thats a fair old output for a 1.6

Not really? They were making 225bhp 1.8turbot's nearly 10 years ago!

Not to mention the Mini Cooper S turbo which is a 1.6T (175bhp?) and the 207gti. And the Corsa VXR had a 1.6t producing 190bhp, what, 4-5 years ago?

Wow thats heavy and the 0-60 is a little off what I would have guessed it would have been. Is it the same engine thats in the Corsa VXR?

185BHP and so what, its got nothing to do with this car

Yea but it has something to do "wow, all that power for a 1.6!" You can get more from non-turbo 1.6's, it's nothing special.

I had a 1985 and latterly a 1990 Escort 1.6 RS Turbos both running (relatively reliably) with a 175BHP "Re-map", I'd have thought a more modern design would handle it with ease?

Happy days. :)

well the modern one has a warrenty, much stricter emmissions. definately a bit of an achievement IMO esp when you consider what vauxhall usually turn out

and think about stuff like refinement. think about how the RS delivered its GO, they were awesome. the astra will be so civilised your granny could do it and still have the 100k mile warrenty

I updated my Sophos and had a look. They only list the gross weight of the vehicle, which is between 1885-2060kg depending on the engine.

Christ, so as manufacturers get more eco aware and strive to build more economical engines, the cars are getting heavier and heavier, is it me or does this contradict itself

Unfortunately i can't find the kerb weight figures for the new Astra, but from looking at the ratio of the old 1.6 Astra's Kerb weight:Gross weight, we can make an educated guess:

Old Astra 1.6:

Kerb Weight: 1240kg
Gross Weight: 1765kg

So assuming the new Astra has a Gross weight of about 1900kg, i estimate the Kerb Weight being about 1450kg.
