Hey, I hope this isnt in the wrong place (it probably is knowing me) Im a little confused about this sort of thing and wondered if anyone has any information/knowledge.

I have a blackberry bold and I want to re-house it (I want it a different colour) in doing so I understand I void the warranty. I do have insurance and so am I right in assuming if the phone breaks I can still have it repaired under the insurance?

I phoned the company who provide my phone/contract and they just replied "umm yeah, you should be able to provided its an insurance repair and not a warranty repair" I have no idea what that means im afraid. Can anyone offer some help, it would be greatly appreciated. Thankyou for your time.
 
1) yes its the wrong place, mobile phone section would have been better

2) yes you can claim on insurance, its different to warranty

warranty is provided by the manufacturer covering any faults that occur wiht the phone

insurance covers anything including losing it, breaking it and dropping it in the toilet

Im pretty sure my insurance does (except losing it), I threw my handbag over my shoulder in a rush to get to an appointment and frisbee'd my phone across the road lol, I laugh now but at the time I didnt :D and they put it down as accidental damage and repaired the smashed screen.

Its covered for theft also unless I leave it on the table at a restaraunt on full show etc

I only ask really as its rare I ever drop, throw or take my phone to the toilet :P and I dont want to splash out buying a second one just to have it a diff colour, its just on the off chance that I re-house it and it breaks unfortunatly.

Also I was thinking of ordering the housing kit from sw-box.com or truesupplier.com, anyone else have some suggestions from UK suppliers?

Correct...if you modify your phone then you risk losing the warranty and any insurance if you claim although there are ways round it.

BB's and most phones come with a little sticker on one of the screws that get damaged if you tamper with it...although if your really careful you can take the sticker off without damaging it.
 
I was going to tell the insurance company of the modification, I guess if they say it will void my insurance I wont do it as my phone being in working order is more important than how it looks, but if they give me the go-ahead id love to get this done.

Finally got through to my insurance and I dont need to notify them of this change and it doesnt void my insurance which is fantastic news, Im quite excited now to go ahead and do this :) Thankyou all
 
Well it arrived today :D Im happy with the overall look (was worried about not liking the colour) It wont be to most peoples taste but I love it, Double and triple checking the sizing to make sure it fits and then... I just have to fit it :D *excitement*

Keep the original incase you ever sell it because the market for pink is smaller than whatever stock will be. Also, your definition of "most" probably needs some checking ;)
 
LOL shes a woman if im not mistaken so pink is usually their colour of choice...a few weeks ago i re-housed my fiancee's 9700 bold with a pink housing....go figure but hey she did buy me a brand new 9800 torch for my bday last month so it was the least i could do.
 
No sorry I dont look like a chav, I just like pink. But everyone is entitled to their opinions, thankyou for yours :)
