Hi guys. My PSU is kinda noisy and it is winding me up. The rest of the PC works find for what I need. Can anyone advise me on the chepest PSU that is nearly silent? I think I need around 350 - 500 Watts.

The Corsair is a good unit for £38. You want something even cheaper but how much are your other components worth? Cheap PSU's are a false economy as they can blow and take other components with it, not worth risking to save a few quid

You can, but I am not going to recommend them, the Corsair is quality PSU.

That Corsair tbh, Fantastic unit.

I have a Corsair CX430W for my second PC. It's excellent, quiet and so far I've not had a problem with it :D

These people speak the truth, corsair psu's made by SeaSonic (The best when it comes to psu) are of excellent quality and have lots of safety features like Over and under current. If you want to spend a bit more for some athsetically pleasing psu's have a look at the XFX range as they too are made by SeaSonic so are smashing psu's too.

Also forgot to mention before, the higher wattage psu you buy, the less stressed it'll be so the cooler it'll be, therefor the fan will run slower making it quieter.

I've had cheap power supplies take out several hard disks before (literally burning the chips out on the hard drive PCB). It just isn't worth the risk to buy a cheap power supply.

I would also vouch for Corsair as being fantastic units. (please though, the OP needs to be aware that if something did go wrong after the retailer warranty ran out then at present the RMA would be to the netherlands - please don't let that put you off, but just something you need to be aware of and only fair you know about it).

Some Corsair PSUs are made by Seasonic (HX 520, 620, 650, most of the AX series are the ones I know that are), not all are (such as HX 750, 850, 1000, TX series). Do you have some evidence that the new CX series is made by Seasonic? And even if they are that doesn't necessarily mean that the new CX series is as high quality as most people expect from Corsair.

cumulusjames, personally I would suggest the Antec Earthwatts Green EA-380D, aslong as you have a power cord to use with it. As, unlike the CX series, the Antec Earthwatts Green 380 has actually had a high quality review done on it, which showed it in a positive light, at Anandtech.com. Unfortunately you won't get it from OCUK. Unfortunately it isn't any cheaper. Anything cheaper you will be taking a chance with and are unlikely to be getting a unit that is very quiet or will last very long, so really you're better off getting it right first time.

Do you have a link for the review? Also when they say no powerchord do they mean the kettle type lead or the guts that o out into your pc's componants?

I have Corsair HX750 in my rig, best unit I've owned. Which manufacturer do make these if seasonic don't? just curious
