As the title says, any games like forza, as in a sim but still fun to play/good sense of speed (Gran turismo games just felt slow as hell for me), good selection of licensed cars with some good car upgradeing etc?

cheers.

I think the only one that has both decent cars, tracks and some form of tuning is Need For Speed: Shift; Unless someone else knows of others. It's not a bad game at all, driving model is a bit dumb and it takes a while to sort out the controls but it does look nice and it has Spa!

RFactor. No upgrades though but there are lots of different mods available.

Need for Speed Shift is about on par with Forza for the PC, its also being quite well modded to add lots of new cars... There is also some DLC that adds Ferrari's and once you get the handling worked out its not too bad a game.

Good graphics.

Grid is ok, bit more arcade but has a good selection of cars. Grid is more fun in a way, but Need for Speed Shift is I feel more like Forza.

rFactor is very hard to play unless you've got a wheel. Physics in rFactor are fantastic and lots of mods to add plenty of cars, F1 seasons etc... But I can't play this game and be decent at it with using a gamepad.

I guess Shift comes the closest in terms of content, career and car tuning but the physics aren't as good as Forza.

GRID is a lot of fun and has a nice career mode (no car tuning if I remember correctly), the physics are totally arcade but imo much more fun than Shift.

Maybe Test Drive Unlimited, I haven't played it myself and I don't think it has a career mode like other games, could be fun though.

Any Simbin game (Race 07 + GTR Evo, Race On. I can't remember what's a stand alone game or expansion these days) is getting a bit more serious. Great physics, good career (not like Forza, it follows a real race weekend structure, Practice, Qualifying, Race) and decent online support. If you whack a few assists on it's probably quite playable with a pad.

rfactor, it has about a bajillion mods (thousands of the most popular cars and tracks), has brilliant physics but pretty poor stock content and virtually no career mode. This is a serious sim though, I've known a few people play it with a pad after a lot of faffing about. If you can get into a league it has fantastic multiplayer. I recommend looking at www.simraceway.com. It has a number of daily races which are recorded and streams live , all the 3rd party mods you need are downloaded when you join the server.

I dont think the car physics can even be classed as "good" in shift. I dont think its possible to play without a wheel, and I hear that needs work to get right. Like I have said before, I am sure its a great game but after trying with keyboard and a pad, giving it a few hours with each to setup and get right it was still unplayable.

Of course it's possible to play with a pad, I've completed the game several times over using an xbox 360 pad which works a treat. There are mods that fix some things and while the handling is not to everyone's taste, it's fun and fast and feels better than Forza to me (Forza feels too slow and predictable).

you can play NFS Shift with a gamepad. I've done so on both the PS3 and my PC using, erm a PS3 pad.

NFS Shift actually gets easier when you use some of the handling mods but even stock its not unplayable.

Its not a forza killer, its a bit marmite. some really liked it, some didn't. I will say though, that Shift has some really good graphics. the car models are excellent.

Another vote for rFactor.

2 popular mods to play (to get you started)

F1 RFT2010 and Megane Racing series.

Both are fine to play on a gamepad, regularly in the top 3-5 when I do so. Great depth too once you start seriously tinkering with setups and such.

i can't think of any game that comes close to forza or gran turismo on the pc. you could use an emulator and play some of the older gran turismo games.

rfactor even with all its mods isn't the same, because it's not like you and your mates get to choose out of all the different cars you have at the same time(still a great game though).

I agree, I actually despise the physics in Shift, I just didn't want to turn this into another Shift bashing session, I've just been at that in another thread :p

If you like a bit of Forza you might like Shift, if you're at all serious about racing games you will probably hate it.

Me and my friends go onto rfactorcentral.com, chose a car and track that we like the look of, download it and go and have a play. It's not hard and the choice is massive.

A car, yes ....15 different cars at the same time no. Only the historic mod is decent when it comes to variety.

But.. I'm not 15 people? You download a few cars at a time, go have a drive with a friend and then you have them forever. It's what I do when me and my friends see something we want to drive, I must have 100 cars now. Sure it's not as easy as just choosing a stock car, but it's not difficult.
