After reading that thread on here and also watching an episode of West Wing about it I'd thought I'd ask peoples opinions.

Should a woman have the right to choose if she can get an abortion or should they not be allowed?

(a poll wouldn't go amiss ;) )

I am predicting a landslide victory for the right, which I totally agree with.

I don't think that abortion should be illegal, however I don't think that it should be widely available:
examples of arguements:

For: If a woman is raped and impregnated, surely she has the right to an abortion?

Against: It's killing human life.

I'm absolutely in favour of the right to choose. That's not to say that I don't think there's a damned good argument against abortion (albeit debased by the likes of the religious), but I would consistently fall within the 'pro-choice' camp.

The man should have some say, as he will be expected to cough up the child support*

*I am making the assumption that the baby is a result of drunken sex, as I cannot see as many married couples getting an abortion.

I personally don't like abortions but it's their choice to have one or not. Besides there are circumstances where I consider abortions a valid consideration, rape cases for example.

Her body, her right to choose imo.

But at what point is the child part of her body, and at what point is the child its own body? Because with your logic, it could be argued that it's also the child's body and therefore the child's right to choose as well. Of course, in practice it's impossible for a foetus to make a decision like that, but the point is I'm questioning what rights the unborn child has

I share your opinion.

Please read some pro-choice material with actual scientific backing before you come storming in here saying it's murder/ending a life.

Religion-based claims that the newly fused sperm and ovum is alive is utter nonsense and I can't believe people still support pro-life campaigns.

Personally I think the limit for an abortion should be increased from 24 weeks old to about 24 years old

On this issue I've always felt it's a woman's ultimate choice, but I also believe that if a woman chooses to forego abortion in unplanned cases against the father's wishes, she should also surrender any entitlement to child support. People get too wrapped up in the 'her body, her choice' stance - both parties are held equally accountable when there's someone to blame, so both should make a mutual decision on which path to take. If a woman decides she wants the accidental baby when the father has emphatically stated he has no wish to be a father, he should be granted that right to absent himself from teh child's life - obviously, only with solid evidence that he's taken that stance from the outset, not something he's decided on after a month of sleepless nights.

please, just think about that
