Anyone here had a Discovery 3?

Thanks for the advice guys. Appreciate it. I'll have a look at the Landy forums and see what is what there. I think you are right, it would be more prudent to go for a newer Pug 4007, Kuga, C-Crosser or CX7. Newer car, lower mileage etc. I had been previously looking at X5's and Cayennes but the investment of @£15k would be a gamble for either at an older age/higher mileage. I'm going to keep my sensible head on here methinks and go for a newer car instead. I know it is an aquired taste but the 4007 gets my vote so far. Drove one last week and it was excellent. The 2.2 oil burner feels quicker than it actually is and the handling is superb for something that sits that high on stilts. The CX7 looks interesting because of its performance potential, equipment and price. Plan to have a test drive of one this week and see how it goes.

Dont forget the Nissan Pathfinder. You should get one for that kind of money and its very similar to the LR Discovery 3; if lacking the 6cyl engine and sophisticated air suspension. I had one for 3 years and it was fantastic; and I sometimes still miss it. I wanted to swap it for a new Disco3 but the two cars were that similar I swapped it for a new A6 Avant instead.... but I still want a large 4x4 :D The Pathfinder has a fairly agricultural 4cyl 2.5l TDI engine which develops about 180bhp (similar to a Disco3 tbh) and internally it has 7 seats pretty much identical internal space to the Disco and if you get a decent trim level you get the very good in-dash sat nav and multi-changer - which tbh is still better than the one in my current A6.

Also, in comparing the 4007/Kuga/CX7 to the Disco; they are chalk and cheese tbh. The Disco is a proper full size 4x4 with all the space and equipment you'd expect whereas the others are really just mid-size family hatchbacks on stilts. There really is no comparison.

Spend a bit more and go the whole hog, here's me partners RR , get one of those :)
