Does anyone here have or has anyone ever slept on a TEMPUR Mattress?

I slept on one recently and just couldn't believe how good it was. Since getting home, I have researched them and they seem to have three downsides:
  • They may smell a bit strange when new
  • they may be hot, particularly in the summer
  • they are incredibly expensive!
The cost I can cope with in return for a good night's sleep, the former will doubtless wear off after a few weeks use - it is the possibility of the mattress being oppressively hot in the summer that bothers me.

The only downside from my experience is this one...

*they may be hot, particularly in the summer

If it's a hot summer prepare to sweat!

I did a lot of reading on these before I replaced an old matress, you have listed the main points,

also people reported bad backs after using them for a while... (but others said it made theirs better)

I went for a 2000 pocket sprung very hard matress instead (i dont know if there is a stardard measurement of hardness but the matress I have is the hardest the shop had)

it is VERY comfortable for me and my partner...

possibly the best £1000 i have ever spent

We've got one on account of me getting a bad back when I sleep, I can just never quite find a mattress thats firm enough in the right places for me so we got a tempur mattress a couple of years ago.

Its really nice I must admit, did wonders for my sleep. But by god does it get hot, it gets insanely hot and even just throwing back the sheets doesnt help because the heat just wraps around you.

Probably better to get a memory foam topper, you can take that off in the summer and use a conventional topper instead.

Yep my mum has one, i bought her the memory one for her bday about 2 yrs ago...cost me £1200 or something stupid like that...she suffers from a bad back and the mattress has done absolute wonders for her back so shes pretty happy with it. And yes it does get hot, ive slept on it myself and its great....i also suffer from a bad back so i need to get round ordering one for myself.

Best £1200 my mum has said ive spent on her:p

You can get Memory foam mattresses in a lot of different guises on the bay... The tempur ones are pure memory foam and such are very walm.. You can get ones that are Impact foam with 2-3 inches of memory foam that reduce the heat, are firmer and easier to get off and above all only £200!

Whilst researching TEMPUR, I also discovered ErgoFlex who appear to sell a similar product. They only operate online (no retail outlets where you can try out the mattress) but are somewhat cheaper and appear to get better ratings from reviewers - for whatever that is worth.

They are running a 50% sale from Monday, so that might be interesting :)

Except when you take it off you won't get much sleep as you would have gotten used to the memory foam. Anyway if you get a decent topper or mattress the foam will be vented properly and won't get too hot in summer.
