piracy on pc

In my opinion there are some publishers who are just greedy and provide too little for the cost, then there are games like morrowind, fallout 3, fallout new vegas etc.. which have no multiplayer, but the fallouts together have provided me with over 150 hours of entertainment (and still going) and morrowind I must have racked up over 600 hours or so on that. Great value for money.

Also broken hope, even people with expensive PCs can still see that some publishers are trying to rip off their customers, so just because they spend thousands on a PC doesn't mean they should let themselves get ripped off to play what their rig was built for.

OH COME ON!

you cant stop this, its impossible, command and conquer 4 for example tried to stop piracy by forcing users to be constantly connected to the net with legit CD keys just to play single player but there are now hacks and cracks to by-pass this.

I don't see the reason why people try to speak-up against piracy, it's a never ending war plus if you do it's more than likely that you will get DDoS from 4chan.

This is 2 months but a good article to read about. http://mashable.com/2010/09/18/4chan-mpaa-ddos-attack/

I know the authorities are trying their best to crack down on this but the amount of people doing this is on a massive scale its hard to control.

There is a big difference between just speaking up against piracy and doing what the MPAA and RIAA do, who have hired companies that have tried to DoS attack piracy websites, which is why 4chan is doing all of this DDoSing in retalliation.

These threads are so boring, piracy is a TINY issue compared to what PR people will have you believe, fact is that plenty of "pirates" demo software then buy it, and the majority of people who pirate, if they couldn't pirate, would simply not buy the game.

Fundamental issue is people who harp on about how piracy is assume every download to be a lost sale, which is so far from the truth its a joke.

games are better value today they they've ever been, console or pc. its just a shame that a certain publisher in particular takes the micky

Maybe on console but not on PC, whatever happened to our shareware culture? iD gave away the first episodes of Wolfenstein/Doom/Quake for free in order to try and entice people into buying the full thing, do you see valve giving away the first episode of Half-Life 2? nope just a lame demo. Better graphics != better value id take Street fighter Alpha 3 over the garbage known as Super Street Fighter 4 any day or Sonic 2 over that pathetic Sonic 4 (which wasn't even in the same league as the fan made Sonic HD remix), or HL over HL2, etc etc

Excellent point, they tend to charge roughly the same for new games yet some are epics like the ones you mentioned and some are turkeys like that "Enslaved" game which can be completed in one sitting

I hate piracy as

1) The PC games market is dying and the pirates don't care, they are selfish
2) They get something for free which I have to work hard for to be able to afford

PC games industry has been growing steadily since its inception and as some ones signature on here says, consoles holding back pc games since 2005.

lies best pc times were around 1995-2002 :P

anyone who claims pc gaming isnt in decline havent been playing games for very long.

i remember when there were a few must have titles a month now its like 1-2 a year

Copying Floppy Disks killed PC gaming!
Copying CDs killed PC gaming!
Copying DVDs killed PC gaming!

Now we've cleared that up, I'm going to sit down and figure out which PC game I should play out of the plethora available.

No it's not.

Back in my Uni days I was guilty of the occaisional torrent. Can't justify it really. Now I'm making a decent wage I've bought all the titles I played back then out of guilt. Some knowing damn well I'll never play them again. I will say though that it saved me from making some god-awful purchases. This only makes the case for demos stronger, though I've played some which I've loved but ended up hating the full game.

No it's not, stop lying.

So it's other people's issues what you personally choose to do? Surely that should mean everyone has to pay the same price as you pay for anything you buy, or it's not fair, right?

I'd argue the PC gaming market for pushing the envelope has started to stagnate, that's due to a multitude of things.
Consoles, and a lack of standardization for accelerated physics, we have PhysX and this bullet engine or whatever, but they're not really big, or industry changing.
We need standards, and a new console generation to move on from the stagnation.

Looking at this thread may well be worth me pirating games, I won't need to log on to a network and I only play single player Anyway lol

If people consider the publishers ripping them off then there is a simple, legal answer, don't buy the games in question. What gives people the right to just take something they haven't bought?

That's exactly what the pirates are doing.

When you're pirating a game you're not taking anything from anyone, you're copying it.
