Thank you for stating the obvious! Out of the many many countries in the world where people are drunk in public, how many of these countries is it socially acceptable to be drunk in their country?
 
It's interesting that in other Countries Bar/Night-Life areas there can be people staggering around and falling/vomiting, but there's much less of a Police presence than here in the UK and also far less violent incidents, the Police/Security in Spain will just be visible but away from the crowds, the UK Police seem to like to push people around a lot and 'Throw their Weight' around, people are just as drunk elsewhere, it's only in the UK you ever get the bad atmosphere at the same time in my experience anyway. This is why I think the UK Binge drinking gets such bad press compared to other drinking cultures. (<------Added in Edit, I had to get a retching dog out of the door so hit Submit too early :p)

WTF... you mean binge drinking as opposed the socialy accepatble drinking?



The OPs question was socially acceptable public drunkeness as opposed to binge drinking UK culture compared to european cosmopolitan society. I think :confused:
 
I'm just pointing out that he thinks it is Socially Acceptable here when it's not, and it gets big Media coverage which does indeed make it seem like it is 'Tolerated' here in the UK, elsewhere it is also unacceptable but not so under-the-spot-light as it is here.
 
UK Media coverage makes public drunkiness or Socially unacceptable bahavior "tolerated"? Socialy acknowledged maybe, but they are very different things.
 
According to some documentary I watched (maybe others can back me up here) it's seen as perfectly acceptable in Japan for people to go out and get sloshed after work. Not just your usual 20/30-something cavemen but also middle aged office workers.

Yup, same in Korea. The best way to see whether a new business partner is trustworthy is to get blind drunk with them.

Okay, somehow you've managed to switch it around so that it's become the fault of the police in some way that drunk people behave violently :confused:

Also remember that being drunk in a public place is an offence.
