Hand Cream

I seem to get the same thing during the weekends when im generally subsituting water for alcohol.. during the week its fine but with the cold weather and lack of water it definately has an effect on the skin... down them pints your body ull thank you for it afterwards :D

Anything that contains urea will cure dry cracked skin. Most products will contain 10% urea but the really big hitters will have 25%.

That will do to relieve the cracking and the 10% is good for daily maintenance.

Flexitol, although marketed as a foot care product is excellent, but some own brands will do as long as they contain 25% urea.

Ask your GP for Diprobase, I've used various moisturisers and have found Diprobase to be fantastic.

Agreed, depending on your skin type I found E45 etc to be too oily and not really soak into my skin much - Diprobase was the only one that seemed to work well.

Second vote for aqueous cream. It's basically unbranded E45 and comes in large tubs from the chemist. It's one of the few things that you can't overuse, according to the doctor, so just slather it on and keep slathering it on.

It's also good for ************ with and any other ****** activity requiring something slippery.

Sorry, but they're 2 different products IIRC.

E45 contains lanolin (sheeps wool fat) whereas aqueous cream contains phenoxyethanol used as an antibacterial.

They both contain various forms of paraffin wax.

If you have serious skin dryness and fissuring then urea is the only way to go IMHO. I used it on myself and clinically for years and it works.

Ohh I didn't realise it was good for cooking with and any other baking activities!

A really good one is 50/50 white parraffin moisturiser, you can get it in a tub over the counter from your pharmacy. It doesn't fully soak in like a lot of moisturisers, so it has a disadvantage, but it works superbly. I feel your pain though, I get exactly the same on the skin between my fingers, ending up raw and bleeding, bloody hurts!

Every winter I used to get cracked skin in the corners of my mouth, I tried every single cream like E45 etc. and nothing helped. I went ot my GP and he gave me some hydrocortisin cream and i've never had a problem since!

I suffer from bad eczema which comes and goes. When it's bad, my hands are like yours.

I use
Aqueous cream to moisturise throughout the day (ie after washing hands etc).
Bodyshop Hemp Hand Protector when I have really dry skin. Expensive, but worth it IMO. MUCH better than E45 etc in my experience.
Boots Hydrocortisone 1% when i have a really bad rash (NOT broken skin).

The main thing I've learnt is to keep on top of it. Dry skin leads to itching, which just exacerbates the problem and leads to broken skin/rashes.

If it continues, go to the doctor, but all he tends to do is prescribe stronger hydrocortisone, which I have plenty of from past prescriptions, so its a waste of time going any more for me :/
