Crest whitening strips

Used these a few months back and was impressed with the results. I had fairly discoloured teeth and these really helped lighten them up. I found them very sensitive on my teeth though so could only use them once a day before bed and sometimes I'd wake up in the night with some minor toothache. I used the normal Crest whitening strips and might try using the 3D ones in the future.

All I'd say is don't expect miracles but for the amount they cost you can definitely expect value for money.

I'd be quite interested in seeing some before and after shots too. I very nearly bought some of these a while back but keep getting putting off by the idea because of the pain it can cause some people.

By the way, can these whitening strips damage your teeth? Can it have any effect on your enamel? This is what also worries me more.

It says enamel safe on the front of the box and I'm on day three and haven't felt any pain whatsoever.

Carbamide peroxide, the active ingredient, molecules are smaller than enamel crystals, so they penetrate between the enamel without disrupting it.
In theory they remove the organic staining products from the surface and from under the surface, leading to brighter teeth.
Any bleaching process also dehydrates the teeth, this will recover, but it does give an appearance of things being whiter than they actually are initially. Its why on the day laser bleaching seems so effective, the teeth are bright white with dehydration when you are given a mirror to look in for your outstanding results.
You might take before and after pictures, but take your after picture 3 weeks after you finish using them. Then you'll get a true picture of how effective things have been.

You should also get a professional clean before you start, that way you will see how effective the strips have been at actually raising the colour of your teeth rather than taking the wine/tea/coffee/indian/nicotine/tax from the surface, which isn't really whitening the teeth at all.

Thanks for the interesting little read there :)
I always thought things like this had a negative impact on the enamel? Guess I know now.

The bleaching does definitely rebound. I've had a lot of teeth whitening done and my teeth seem whiter when I get them bleached but a week later they are nearly back to where they started.
It's expensive and annoying but it does make some difference, even if it's only minor (this was with 12 tubes of 10% carbamide peroxide used with a gum shield made by my dentist, they go from yellow to perfect white, to a light yellow).

What about something like this with a gum shield? Surely it'd be better than strips, as it seems you can miss bits of your teeth out if you have strangely arranged teeth (like i do):

*edit* It only states that there are 4 tubes, how long would they last? Surely it cannot be a tube a day?

I'm having a few fillings tomorrow. Will order these ready for when my fillings are over with.

30quid for 4 days wouldn't be much...Has anyone tried the ones I linked, or something similar? If 4 tubes would be enough for results I'd def buy them..

Just ordered some of the Crest 3D Vivid Whitestrips that are on the discount health products site linked earlier, once they arrive if I remember I'll post a before and after for people incase anyone else is wondering 'if they work'.

I have stained teeth as I drink a lot of coffee, and wasn't as careful when I was younger :)

For proper comparison you really should have all that surface staining removed first by a professional clean with a hygienst, that way you can see the actual whitening effect of the strips on yoru teeth, rather than their main effect being surface stain removal which gives the appearance of whitening.

Take the pictures with same camera, same lighting conditions at same time of day for best results in the before and after, but I would certainly include a good cleaning first.

peroxide does damage the enamel - peroxide damages pretty much everything!
carbamate peroxide is milder than hydrogen peroxide though and at the percentages they use the damage is small - there is no way of whitening teeth without causing 'some' damage, its simply impossible.

After reading this thread at the weekend, I decided to try the "Crest Whitestrips 3D White 2 hour Express Whitening" strips.
I bought them from "discountwarehouses" as that was the cheapest price I found (£31)

I received them today and gave them a try, but they haven't done a thing.
I've got aching teeth, but that's about it.

So I can't recommend them.

Yes I did :D
The box says "Noticeably Whiter Teeth In 2 Hours".

There's only 4 "treatments" in the box and each one is supposed to last 3 months.

Instructions, I'z a man Sir, I only look at 'em after I've built something or got totally stuck ;)

I tried these shortly after my last post. The first strip looked like it didn't do anything, I tried another one the following day and I did start seeing results, by day 4 my teeth were noticably whiter. I don't smoke or drink a great deal of coffee so I don't think my teeth were overly stained before but these made a noticable difference to the whiteness.

When using them they did make my teeth extremely sensitive for a day or two. The colour appears to of returned to normal after a few months but overal I would defintely say they are worth it, I need to get round to starting them again.
