My brother is looking for 50" Plasma TV at the local high street stores.

He just called me to ask if this was true, the sales guy told him that 600hz is better for freeview as freeview runs at 600hz and Sky runs at 50hz.

I laughed my head off about this, any one else heard such bull before? I can't imagine there being any truth in this.

Also Panasonic, Samsung or LG 50" Plasma?

Thanks

Hmm, I'm guessing your brother answered the "Do you have Sky?" question with a No hence the BS from the salesman.

I'd go LG, Panasonic and the supposily Daddy's but for bang for buck and the reviews the LG's are getting they're hard to ignore.

Having attempted to train Currys and PC World staff in the past I can say this from personal experience, but it doesn't apply to all their staff...The level of knowledge is poor. Misinformation is rife. Soundbytes rule their world. As far as I can tell there's very little drive for this to change either from top down management or instore. My overriding impression was that the sales staff were tasked with keeping the shelves tidy rather than being given time to develop their knowledge. :(

Currys/PC World/Comet sales people are full of ****, Had one the other week telling me a LED tv gives a much better picture quality then plasma, its best when you buy a laptop from there, they aways lie about the battery life adding a few hours on usually

Freeview runs at 600Hz? HAHA. Utter rubbish. All TV broadcasts (Except HD) in the UK are 576i/25fps/50Hz. All most of these TVs do is interpolate frames to make motion look smoother. I personally find the affect undesirable.

Utter BS. Best 3D LED I have seen is the 8000 Samsung without a shadow of a doubt wiped the floor with the Panasonic so much depth and colours.

I'm also looking for a 50" set to replace my old tv, when you say LED gives a better picture does that include fast moving images such as a football match?

Off the top of my head I can't think of a 50" LED TV I believe it would have to be a 52" or 55" . As for motion I'd say plasma.

If I had the money I'd be going for a SAMSUNG UE55C8000 your talking about £2.3k though.

I had an LG, but the quality difference between my 11 month old LG and my new Samsung TV are night and day.

The Samsung wipes the floor with it's rival.

Ah thanks for that, i don't think my budget would stretch to that sort of money unfortunately. :(

i used to for for said Indian place, and what you say about all staff is utter carp.
Yes there are some staff that know jack & read off of tickets, and there are some with some savvy about what there talking about.
It all boils down to who you get on the day, could be experienced could be not so.

Thanks for the replys, it really annoyed me that the guy came out with such rubbish.

My brother went for an LG as the Pani wasn't in stock, his budget was under £600 so he didn't have many to choose from for a 50", he is happy with it so far.
