HTC Desire HD (Ace)

Hmm interesting I thought the chipset in the DHD was only slightly different to the Desire, didn't realise the GPU was so much better:

Also just been playing with htcsense.com and it's pretty good, I like the way when you press refresh on the location it enables GPS.

That's one thing I meant to ask, did anyone's come with a screen protector? Mine feels like it has one on already but I'm too scared I'll ruin it if I pull it off...

Mine still says it's disabled but in settings it isn't :(

I got the official HTC screen saver - fits perfectly with no bubbles - don't even know I have one on

I tried to put a screen protector on mine but just couldnt get all the bubbles out. Th screen seams solid enough like russinating says.

Oh, and HTC Sense (online) is borked for me. The phone rings when I make it do so, but nothing else works. Phone location doesn't show despite it being enabled, and it says my phone's locked (from weeks ago) but nothing comes up on or locks my phone. Even if I try 'relocking' it nothing happens, even though it used to. Bit disappointing.

Is a screen protector essential for this phone?

Nope, not at all.

Mine had something covering the screen but i took that off straight away.

It comes with some plastic covering the screen (and I think the rear of the phone too), its certainly clear that it should be taken off though :p

yip I have the exact same issue (except mine doesn't say it's locked)

I've narrowed it down to htc sense on the phone not syncing to the website as on the website it doesn't show missed calls or messages either

I've just reinstalled locations on the phone, deleted and readded the htc sense account on the phone, logged in and synced but still not working, all options are enabled on the phone too :(

On the subject of video playback, I've had pretty good results playing AVI files with Vplayer. Very solid player for me, and importantly it seems to drain the battery less than Rockplayer. I'd estimate that I lose about 18% for an hour of playback (wifi and mobile data off).

Ginga

Can someone confirm something... I was always under the impression that the Desire had 500+ mb for apps but just been looking at my mates and it seems to only have around 150mb available, yet by all accounts my DHD seems to have 1gb just for apps, seems like a rather large step... But an awesome one of course.

I love this phone.

I love this phone.

Me too, my only concern was the battery which is now dropping less than half a % per hour at idle. Which is just

Its been unplugged for 48 hours now, and its at 49%, with 1 and 1/2 hours use of the screen (at 20% brightness) and things syncing every 4 hours, wifi on most of the time.

The screen quality is also really nice, wasn't disappointed really at all coming from SAMOLED!

I'll try and find my camera for those comparison pictures :p

The Desire has 150~ MB dedicated to Apps, not 500+, the remainder is for the system although that all changes with S-off + N1table and SD-EXT.

Just picking up on the subject of the screen - My GF has the Galaxy S and while her screen does look brighter and more vivid I am not much of a fan of it after spending time with my DHD. Small text doesn't look as clear and the SGS horizontal viewing angle isn't that great and shows a hue of blue when at an angle.

I once mocked HTC for not using a SAMOLED display in the DHD and it was a reason for me not to purchase a DHD. But the DHD has a great screen - don't let the fact it isn't SAMOLED put you off.
