Right

I have an Asus 5770. How much of a gain in performance would I see going to a 5850 roughly, is it a massive leap or is there not much in it. I know the 6xxx series are out but I can't afford it and can pick up a new gigabyte 5850 for £115.

I game at 1680 by 1050 on a 22" widescreen monitor.

I'd say it's worth it. Particularly if you overclock it to 5870 speeds and sell your 5770.

Here's a comparison: http://www.anandtech.com/bench/Product/172?vs=164

One thing worth remembering is overclocking 5850's is great, IF you have a card that has voltage control, if it doesn't, don't expect the same overclocks.

My 5850 does 1050Mhz core without breaking a sweat with a decent cooler, reference design with voltage control, without increasing voltage I don't break 800Mhz or so.

If the gigabyte is a model with voltage control included, like MSI/Asus designs, its a freaking steal, if not, then £20 more for a 6850 that overclocks well might be a better idea, also leaving you with a better xfire option in the future if you fancied it.

Yeah just been tediously trawling google all morning and opsts confirm it has poor/none voltage control and the bios's are messed up. May go the 6850 route then.

Performance wise are the 5850 and 6850 on a par? And I wonder how much difference in eprformace I would get going fomr my 5770 to a 6850?

Edit: order cancelled.
