Right now you could all take this the wrong way,and say OMG CHILDKILLER but hear me out. i live in south wales, Where i am the roads are (trust me) FINE DIDELLY FINE!
How can i say this with confidence? Because while theres so snow on cars and grass, There is ZERO ice or snow on the roads (the ones ive been on anyway).
Also take into account the fact that I have Hankook ventus primes on the front and Austone tyres on the rear. For those that dont know Austone is apparently Chinas 5th most popular tyre brand...FANTASTIC.
Anyway even when you take into account the terrible tyres I can still drive around at a pace similar to normal speeds, granted im not chucking my car around roundabouts or flooring it mid corner but you know what i mean.
But today i have seen some truly RETARDED driving, Perfectly snow free, straight, flat NO ice roads that are NSL and every has to wait for the brigade of 30mph losers in cars that a lot of the time should cope far better than me, Jeeps, Skinny tyre city cars you name it. Seriously im fed up of the "OH ITS SNOWING ON THE NEWS, LETS BE REAL REAL CAUTIOUS" attitude.
To further add to driving fails i saw my first every car crash today, EVER, and i saw it coming about 5 years before it happened it was hilarious frankly (no one was injured im not a sicko) basically traffic was stopped on a roundabout and this clio in front was paying attention to cars about to come around, revs, dips his clutch GP style (hes should be in no hurry theres no cars about to come anywhere near him) anyway i think he travelled about 4 metres before hitting a stopped zafira.
RANT OVER

People have been a bit retarded today.
I actually do have snow round here, but the bypass round lincoln was clear, I came out of my last collection in my truck, hit the bypass to find everyone crammed in the inside lane doing 25mph.
No signs telling them to do so, no police, a bit of sleet coming down thats it.
Pulled out, accelerated up to 56mph and sat there the whole bypass from the far side of lincoln to the A1 at newark.

Sorry Eliot I don't mean to be disrespectful but aren't you quite a new and inexperienced driver yourself? Maybe these '30 mph losers' have had a fair few years more practice of winter driving?

Most people completely overreact when there's a bit of snow. The main road here is well plowed and treated at the moment, but the majority still insist on doing 35-40mph down the inside lane, with pretty much everyone tailgaiting the car in front. I was able to do 50-60 down the outside more safely despite the cover of snow as people in the main seem to know what they're doing in the outside and give each other miles of space.

I am young being 20, but im far from inexperienced, yes ive only being driving three years but in that time ive done about 20,000 miles or more driving every day in all weather, inculding that month of snow last year and to be fair i learned a LOT about driving in the snow that time, driving up to uni every day for a month 24 miles in each direction, one time in blizzard esque conditions. But believe me when i say the roads im talking about were dry as a bone and presente no problem at all when driving reasonably

Bloody hell! The voice of experience! :p:D:D:D

Yes, I know mate.

Your experiencing the effect of the medias "OMG! Its the next ice age!" reporting of this normal WINTER weather, everybody over reacts, see's a spec of the White stuff and hit the anchors....

Some silly cow on Radio 5 this afternoon was describing how on snow, she hit the brakes when she started to slide, kept them on & even tried yanking on the handbrake.... clueless..

"We" as a collective of drivers generally are not taught how to drive properly (Car control etc) no skid training, and have councils that despite warnings don't bother to treat most roads...

Then we sit back & wonder why the UK can't handle a bit of snow.

Yeah we're getting it down here despite the only snow being some tiny wisps of it this morning that melted on contact. It's very cold but there's little ice or frost on the main roads.

Yet you still get the old dears who do 30 in a 60.

Luckily there are plenty of overtaking spots and the roads are reasonably quiet.

Extra! Extra! "20 year old driver knows everything"...

Edit: Don't read too much into this, I'm just saying that people drive that slowly all year round.

Well in London I had the exact opposite problem.

I am young being 20, but im far from inexperienced, yes ive only being driving three years but in that time ive done about 20,000 miles.

Also, I am a similar age to you and have done a similar mileage, I also drove on both years of snow and I certainly would not call myself experienced. Plenty of people drive 20k miles in one year! :p

I'm nearly 40 and truly shudder to think how many miles I have driven..... :(

My point being, despite my job, age & "experience", I sincerely don't regard myself as experienced. Why? because rarely does a day go by when I don't learn something new - driving related - however trivial....

The only time you can say your experienced is when you hang your keys up for good and have lived to tell the tale! :D

Better safe than sorry.

I, too, am annoyed with this useless drivers, but normally only in the morning when I am very grumpy :o

Why that's people like you have the highest rates of crashes out of any age group - you think you know everything when in reality you don't know ****

Come back in a few years time when you're more seasoned.

YES because i have crashed....
Seriously can none of you read, i can handle my car let me assure you, I havent at anypoint said I AM GODS GIFT neither have I said im am the worlds best driver so surely by your own admission every one who has got on my back about this should go find a dry non icy/snowy road and do less than half the speed limit.

Post 8 seems to get the idea, and i think has hit the nail on the head.

Mark actually YOU clearly think YOU know everything as you apparently have seen me drive. You sir are a complete **** who despite knowing EVERYTHING about my driving ability lacks the ability to read.

Jesus Christ on a pedal cycle.

You need to chill out. You are a massive hot head, I can imagine you behind the wheel, raging at everyone while thinking you are the love child of Sabine Schmidt and Nigel Mansell.

Maybe the other drivers know that despite looking ok, roads can still be much more dangerous in cold conditions. The roads around here look fine, but when a div in a disco pulled out on me yesterday and i had to brake suddenly, there was clearly much less grip than normal.

OP, chill out and realise you are young and inexperienced
