Snow and Retardedly slow driving (doing my head in)

OP sounds like the kind of person who'll later take out 20 feet of fence after not realising there was a load of black ice on a 'clear' road :D
Seriously? im not really sure, i mean after all:
I said im not gods gift
I said i wasnt going the speed limit
Generally i've so far been gang banged by people who have looked at this thread had done the following:

Hes 20
He wants to drive fast
Its cold outside

= OP thinks hes Jesus of the driving word and knows everything
The only truth in those points is that im 20

I don't mind the speeds, it's the tailgating I don't get, what the hell is with everyone tailgating each other in the slow/middle lanes when the road conditions are awful?

No not at all, it's not that you want to drive quickly, it's that you don't comprehend why other people might be going slowly.

Yes, they probably were going slower than they could, but it's the attitude that shines through

OP

Would you rather the "retards" drove faster and ploughed into you because they couldn't stop? I saw this happen twice this morning on the way to work, and was getting so annoyed with one particular "retard" driving 6ft from my rear bumper i pulled over and let him past. This is on a snow covered icy road!!

I don't want the hassle at best of finding a decent rear bumper from a scrappy and repainting it or at worst finding a new car. I will therefore leave a large gap between me and the car in front and slow down to maintain it.

Just leave earlier and slow down, better to get there later than not at all.

Im pretty sure my shocking posting style created this attitude and then i've been lynched

Let me assure you:

I dont traffic light GP
I dont tailgate
I am not Damon Hill
I have under no illusion as to my driving abilities.

Lets move on then yeah?

I think the point is most of you cant comprehend that i dont live where you do.

EDIT: in hindsight the word snow shouldnt be in the thread title either... there wasn't any on the road so...

Stop getting hung up on people thinking you're a boy racer, you completely missed the point I just tried to make.

You don't seem to begin to understand why people would be going slower than normal. It's understanding circumstances and anticipation that comes with experience - lack of both causes accidents and that's exactly what you seem to be lacking. "it looked ok to me so it would be fine"

The roads around here are probably better than there, they look fine, but you still need to take extra care on them, as I explained earlier

Ok i agree with this, but i wonder how fast 90% of the people in this thread would have driven... they will probably say other wise but I doubt it, im pretty sure most of them would have driven between 50 (where i was) and 70 the national speed limit (not target as pointed out earlier)

Also dont get me wrong I get going slower than normal, after all i was myself. Going less that 1/2 the speed limit i dont understand. especially when your in a jeep.

But hey who gives.

Nobody is doubting otherwise, chances are they were going slower than necessary.

It's just the assumption that you know for definite what the conditions were that's bothering people.

Holy ****

Personally I would rather see people drive slow than up your backside and trying to take corners with having to control it than nice and slow.

Really, your going to get home what 10 minutes quicker?

This is going to sound sexist, but all the cars I saw crawling at 0.00004 mph with a queue of cars behind them were all driven by women.

God knows how they got a driving license. I was going to suggest that perhaps they had slept with their driving instructor, but alas they were all complete munters, which deflated this theory of mine rather quickly.

Your wealth of experience has obviously never included suddenly hitting a patch of black ice (yes in conditions as you describe ie 3deg, visibly clear roads).
If it does happen, it's your lack of experience combined with your arrogance that will probably see you in a ditch or bouncing off another car (or a person).

It's a shame we can't fast forward 10years and show your future self this thread. Chances are you will facepalm as you may actually have experienced some of the worst case scenarios that you aren't currently able to imagine.

I find it both sad and hilarious... seems you get very few people driving sensibly and either people trying to drive like normal (10mph over the limit with small margin for error) or 10-15mph under the limit and braking/slowing for everything 100 yards before it. I dunno whats so hard about just driving correctly for the conditions :(

Just put the phone down to my neighbour. She has a Merc C Class and it took her 2 hours and 15 minutes to do the journey it took me 10 minutes. THIS is the difference between RWD and 4WD. On the 3 days a year we have snow it is fabulous, she had to be towed out 3 times, 3 times!!

OP - Quite frankly I couldn't care less where you lived - though saying that as long as it's not anywhere near me then it's all good, but can't you understand that everyone else was driving sensibly given the likely conditions? Pretty much the entire country has been experiencing below freezing temperatures so everyone is rightly driving cautiously.

I guess you're yet to have an wintery 'off' in your long and illustrious driving career... but I wouldn't worry it will be along very soon.
