iv been looking into getting a 3D tv. My conclusion is wait for the next gen to come out...

i have no idea about projectors, im guessing they would be passive screens

Depends on how much you want to spend. For a grand or two you can get an excellent TV that's also 3D capable. For the same money you'll be getting a relatively budget projector.

My advice, forget 3D and get the best 2D projector you can afford. With the new JVC models coming out soon there should be some excellent deals on their current projectors (and some amazing bargains on last years if you don't mind 2nd hand)

with an ATi card you have to use generic 3D glasses. With Nvidia you get to use the nvidia vision glasses, which from my research are considered better than the generic ones.

I'd go projector personally. In fact i did get the acer projector but haven't used any 3d material on it yet so shouldn't really express my opinion on it.

and how have you found the acer?

To the OP I think formovies PS3 is the simple option, for PC games Nvidia are likely best for 3D at this time so maybe change your GFX card. Im considering the Optoma 600X for about £400.

PS3 3D Games = Yes
PS3 3D Blu Ray = Yes
Sky 3D = Yes
Nvidia 3D = Yes

3DXL Info

The 3DXL supports 14 current projectors...
A suitable 120Hz Projector such as the Optoma 600X (new model)

3DXL Cost to be £250 (before discount / includes 1x pair glasses available Jan 2011)
Optoma 600X already available approx £400 (cheaper models available)

In 3D terms thats super value with what should be decent quality image. However some main advantages over a 3DTV.
1) Easily portable for usage somewhere else
2) Upto 100" 3D screen could be possible
3) Excellent value and cheapest entry for a large 3D screen experience

I think it will be excellent....

Why don't their new projectors have the hardware to accept all those 3d sources instead?

Though its interesting to see how much that projector costs, something of that quality used to be double or more, didn't realize they had come down so much since i bought one. :)

and how have you found the acer?
I really have noting to compare it to TBH. My first and only projector.

But to me it looks good, colours are vibrant. Its only 720p so sharpness in still pictures or desktop PC isn't great, but HD content in motion is very nice.

Does that 3DXL work with the Acer? or are Acer bringing out an alternative?

The specs of the 600x seems to be close to HD67.
Not sure if their is much difference in performance between them.

This hardware in what 3DXL does is just new so I guess it could be adopted to be incorporated into future projectors or indeed AV amplifers. My concern is quality issues regards crosstalk. I dont want a nice big 3D image that sucks for gaming.

*Swats you can run a 1080p deskop, it will offer the scale or real-estate of a 1080p desktop just in 720p visual resolution.
Worth a go if you want more desktop space. All the models that work with the box are in one of the links.

over at the 3d vision forum at nVidia there are plenty of projector users who have tried both

neither are of high enough quality to tempt me yet, need new models still!
