hi guys, there's that offer on OCuk for a 5870 for roughly £200 on pre order
should I get it or wait a bit. don't know if better getting an nvidia for physx.

that card is better than the 470 and the 6870 do....I'm lost
thanks!

At stock the 5870 is faster than a 470.

Overclock the 470 to 800mhz+ and you will have a faster card than the 5870 and very near 480 performance.

If you dont plan on overclocking, the 5870 is brilliant price, but then again the 470 are nice prices.

The new 69** series cards will be more than £200

The 6870 are very close to 5870 performance but offer far better Xfire scaling if you plan that route in the future

The 6870 use less power and run cooler than the 5870.

There are so many choices to buy graphics cards at the moment :)

It depends on your budget. The new 69xx cards are going to be more expensive, it will be a least £250 for the 6950 I reckon. However if you've got the money, it's probably worth the wait, if anything, prices for older generation cards are going to be even cheaper.

Physx, for the most part, is overrated or hasn't really been used in any games so far that really show that it's actually any better than say Havok.

I have been tempted too. But buying so close to the release of specs & reviews for the 69*** cards has to be a pretty daft decision... I keep telling myself.

Bottom line of me is... why offload cards so cheap if the new generation is poor bang for buck? Apart from as an act of sheer generosity to customers, obviously. I am far too cynical to believe that though. :-)

PS Physx isn't something to worry about at all IMO.

ok I was maybe going to get that before that offer showed up

what about the nvidia 570 coming out soon?
or a price drop on these cards?

If Oc ing means putting an after market gpu cooler, I'm not up for it

Thats a great card!,if i was going to buy a 470 it would be that one for sure, the 570 will be atleast £300

You can safely overclock a 470 or 5870 without adding a 3rd party cooler

The 470 you have linked has excellent cooling and a pre-factory overclock already, you could easily hit 800mhz +

thanks for you help so would u buy that 5870 or the 470 yourself?if you were facing the same choice

Me personally the 470,ive owned both the 5870 and 470 btw :)

Like i said the overclock on the 470 at 800mhz will make it a 480 basically :)

oh non I' m never gonna stop I have an amd mobo..crossfire, even though I've always thought by the time I get the money for a second card, a better single one will be out....

still the nvidia?

If you want crossfire in the future, then get the 6870

If you want a single card,me personally after owning both cards, the 470

If you want to crossfire in the future, get the 6870 over the 5870, since it has hugely superiour crossfire scaling?

Yes this is true,i have already posted earlier in my first post in this thread above that the 6870 is better for xfire scaling

This i agree would be better than a 5870 if xfire is something your considering for the future OP

sorry ut what is xfire?

just trying to find benchmark of the 470 soc OCed and it's not really better than the 5870...for more heat and power consumption

^Read my second post where i clearly say "6870 is better for xfire",i made a simple mistake",have you anything to contribute for the OP,if not shut up.
