I can't get my new pc build to post. I've taken it out of the case. The only things attached are the processor, heatsink (went back to stock one) and computer monitor cable (onboard graphics). I have the system speaker also connected however it makes no sounds at all.

The CPU fan runs. I have no idea where the problem lies as all the parts are new and my current system is so old I can't check anything on it.

Cleared CMOS numerous times.

Have you checked all connections/cables/etc.?

Are you building by yourself?

You mean really? only CPU and heatsink?: What about Ram/Gpu?

Is there RAM installed?

When I did my first build, I was told to put CPU, RAM, and GPU in and then boot it and check that it POSTed.

Not uber-experienced, but those are my thoughts!

I have taken right back as far as I can take it so only a psu connection, monitor connection, power supply fan connector and cpu fan cooler connection. All in securely.

My new build is:
Gigabyte GA880GA-UD3H Mobo (using onboard graphics)
Antec TruePower New 650w
2x2GB GSkill CL7 RipJaw DDR3 PC3-12800 (1600Mhz) RAM
Athlon II x4 640 3ghz processor
Antec Freezer Rev 2 Cooler (thought reverted to stock to eliminate a problem with the install).
Coolermaster Elite 430 Case.

Just out of interest, does the Arctic Freezer not interfere with RAM in slot 1 on that mobo?

I have that cooler and that RAM on a MA770T-UD3, and RAM slot 1 is not useable due to space. Cooler's not pressing on it too hard, is it?

EDIT: just saw that you reverted to stock cooler - is this the reason? Just wondering if something got fouled while you were building :S

No it was obvious that I wasn't going to be able to install so I gave up pretty quickly. In any case even if I wrecked one stick of RAM the other should work on its own however neither seems to help.

Assuming you've tried a CMOS reset? [edit] Just read that you have..but have you done it properly? Did you follow the instructions in the motherboard manual? [/edit]

Tried inserting a GPU? If you have then it can only be hardware failure.Motherboard ,CPU or PSU (doubtful as the fans spin, but still a possibility)

Remove battery and power lead, reset cmos, leave for 10-15 mins, return jumper to proper boot position, install battery and power lead. restart.

Do you have both power connections to the motherboard connected? (beaten to it :))

I haven't tried a gpu because I don't have a pci-express one. My old one is a pci one. Hence the reason for the major overhaul. I've tried both vga and dvi to hdmi connections but neither work and on two different monitors.

When I turn the power the screen wakes but it's blank. It's as if the cable senses something but then all stops. The same with the usb connector for the wireless keyboard and mouse it flashes all it's light but they disappear almost immediately.

can you confirm you have both power connections plugged in? the main 24 pin and the 4/8 pin atx_12v? common mistake to leave the later out. i should know, i've done it myself!

If your old graphics card is PCI not AGP it will fit on one of the PCI slots on the motherboard.
