Your talking about it, and its a harp back to childhood memories for the people doing it?

Its just a bit of fun tbh, but someone has tagged NSPCC on the end of it, and tbh, it doesnt do any harm :)

It's simply raising awareness, hopefully some people will be inclined to do a bit of further reading and donate or do some charity work because of it.

I mean, no offence, it's not exactly rocket science :p

Change your Facebook profile picture to a cartoon character from your childhood and invite your friends to do the same, for the NSPCC. Until Monday (December 6th), there should be no human faces on Facebook, but an invasion of memories. This is a campaign to stop violence against children.

Because it's yet another one of those facebook campaigns where a load of people do something pointless and insignificant like post a status or change their picture under some misguided idea it's actually a method of doing something, rather than doing something more useful like you know, actually donating to the NSPCC or something.

It just encourages lazy 'support' whilst everyone partaking feels some smug sense of satisfaction and in reality all that has been achieved is a load of pictures got changed. I'm sure that will mean the world to some kid taking yet another beating from his abusive parents, at least some people on facebook are changing their pictures to a cartoon for a couple of days.

Has it, or has it not raised awareness?

Is it, or is it not being talked about right now?
 
Has it done anything more than 'raise awareness'? Are people are actually donating? Actively doing something?

Or has it just lead to a load of people changing their status and then forgetting about the entire thing 5 minutes later thinking 'I've done my bit'?

I absolutely detest this sort of thing on facebook, it just leads to so many people doing something insignificant and usually completely forgetting about it soon after and never actually doing anything of any real value.

As he says it's reduced peoples 'guilt' levels so rather than actually do something constructive they now have....a cartoon avatar. Totally counterproductive.

Awareness is fine, if you actually do something constructive with it. But what awareness has this actually given, that some people are nasty to children? Well I never. :eek:
