Facebook & cartoons

No I absolutely don't, I think the majority of people will change their picture, think they've done their bit, they've helped save a child and will then promptly forget all about it.

I'd be interested to find out from the NSPCC if there was a significant spike in donations or reports surrounding this. My gut feeling says there will be barely a bump.

There is plenty to lose though, from all the people who do this and think this is enough, that changing a picture on facebook will make a difference. These are people that should be doing something useful, not just copy pasting the latest chain fad they've spotted on their news feed.

So, have you donated?

Or are you both not going to donate AND not bother with the Facebook campaign?

I know which I'd rather be.

No I haven't donated (recently) but then i'm not the one sat here feeling smug with myself pretending i've made a difference because I put a cartoon picture on facebook.

I was just about to quote a load of posts that vaguely made a similar point but you have saved me the hassal.

How bizarre

I don't feel smug about changing my profile picture at all. Who exactly feels smug or they have done something of potent significance? Someone you know who has acknowledged this? Or someone you have just made up in your head?

I'm not pretending I've made a difference, and I doubt many people actually honestly believe they have either. I've changed my picture to Count Duckula just because he's fricking awesome and there's not enough of him in the world. I get to stealth this in while people are putting rubbish cartoon characters in as their profile pic, but Duckula will be there to stay for a long time!!!

Found this on another forum :D

I wouldn't have known it existed unless other people were changing their pictures. Now I've got a silly picture on Facebook because of this, and as it happens a few hours ago I donated online at the http://www.nspccwishes.org.uk/ website, which I didn't know about until I went on the Facebook NSPCC page.

I wouldn't have bothered doing any of that today if it wasn't for the Facebook publicity, so they got a donation out of me :)

I was going by the fact you said "I wouldn't have known it existed unless other people were changing their pictures."

How does wearing pink support breast cancer? Same sort of thing
Did change mine though, Grandizer :-)

Typically wearing pink has an organised day/week for fund raising though. This cartoon thing is dumb. It's so that people can FEEL like they're doing some good when really, they're doing **** all.

People know child abuse exists, changing your profile pic does nothing.

I wouldn't have known about the campaign nor even thought about donating to the NSPCC today if it was not for FB. Of course I've heard of them

The problem is people who change their picture just so they can become part of a trend without even taking in what it all means or how maybe they should actually give some money to charity. I bet if you went through your friends list asking the same people who changed their pic's how many donated money today you'd find a shockingly low number.

This whole thing reminds me of the Christmas number 1 campaign last year, milions of people joined but less than half actually bought the song, it's just a good thing being ruined by plebs who just want to look good infront of all their FB friends by being part of a fad.

It's not even as though we needed reminding though, turn on the TV for 5 minutes and you're likely to see an advert for NSPCC, or a billboard in the street reminding you.

Ah, I was trying to work out the other day why some of my friends have changed their profile pics to cartoons. Some others have changed their pics to cartoons today too.
