Facebook & cartoons

Brilliant. :D

I'm surprised at the people who are criticising this little movement. Charity is not just about giving money, i'd argue that donations play a small part in the NSPCC's agenda.
Advertising does not come cheap, this little action has brought the charity to the forefront of peoples minds for no outlay and far more efficiently than any TV campaign. That alone will do a lot more good than simply donating your £2 a month via DD.

To call the idea silly is pretty disrespectful to the charity's that is raising awareness for.

If you dont feel the idea is worthy of your time then simply ignore it, go find something else to criticise.

Can't believe the amount of people moaning about this, apart for raising awareness (which it clearly has achieved) it's just a bit of fun. Jez some people need to lighten up.

Because it's yet another one of those facebook campaigns where a load of people do something pointless and insignificant like post a status or change their picture under some misguided idea it's actually a method of doing something, rather than doing something more useful like you know, actually donating to the NSPCC or something.

It just encourages lazy 'support' whilst everyone partaking feels some smug sense of satisfaction and in reality all that has been achieved is a load of pictures got changed. I'm sure that will mean the world to some kid taking yet another beating from his abusive parents, at least some people on facebook are changing their pictures to a cartoon for a couple of days.

I agree so much, and I hope you don't mind me quoting you to friends to explain why this insignificant and pointless effort is wasted unless action (donating to a charity) is taken.

Get off your high horse
Its free advertising for the charity and for that reason alone its a donation to the charity's it raising awareness for, theres one thing to stand by and do nothing but to stand by and criticise people for doing it makes you worse than the people who simply do it to be a sheep.
Even if there is only one donation thanks to the idea it was worth it for the simple reason it cost the charity nothing and the people involved nothing with zero overhead.

/edit

Dear Mr Maccapacca ,

Thank you for your kind donation of £10.00 to the NSPCC.

Your money allows us to provide vital services for children, such as the NSPCC Helpline and ChildLine. Together they answer thousands of calls a week, and are at the forefront of our fight against child cruelty, helping to protect children from abuse and neglect.

The majority of our funding comes from our supporters, the NSPCC simply could not exist without the support of people like you, so on behalf of all the children you’re helping, thank you again for your gift.

Miss Charley Day

I'm not the one on the horse tbh.
The people who think that by changing a picture and not actually doing anything yet have a false sense of achievement are the ones who need to dismount.
