This. It seems many of my friends have changed their pics today. It's a silly campaign that the majority of my facebook friends are doing.

Because it's yet another one of those facebook campaigns where a load of people do something pointless and insignificant like post a status or change their picture under some misguided idea it's actually a method of doing something, rather than doing something more useful like you know, actually donating to the NSPCC or something.
It just encourages lazy 'support' whilst everyone partaking feels some smug sense of satisfaction and in reality all that has been achieved is a load of pictures got changed. I'm sure that will mean the world to some kid taking yet another beating from his abusive parents, at least some people on facebook are changing their pictures to a cartoon for a couple of days.
I agree so much, and I hope you don't mind me quoting you to friends to explain why this insignificant and pointless effort is wasted unless action (donating to a charity) is taken.
this is now my facebook pic
i bet i get some abuse tonight
Get off your high horse
Its free advertising for the charity and for that reason alone its a donation to the charity's it raising awareness for, theres one thing to stand by and do nothing but to stand by and criticise people for doing it makes you worse than the people who simply do it to be a sheep.
Even if there is only one donation thanks to the idea it was worth it for the simple reason it cost the charity nothing and the people involved nothing with zero overhead.
I grew up watching Japanese manga, which are filled with violence lol
