I put Goodyear Excellence on my Volvo which used tyres around that size. They were pretty good, but not the cheapest.

If you're going out in this whether though, maybe a set of Nokian WR G2s, just remember to take them off again in April.

I can't take Kuhmos seriously any more after a certain tyre fitter offered me a set (as an alternative to the Nokians) and for some reason managed to swap the letters H and M and then pronounce it as two separate words.

She will be selling the car ce the summer, so I guess I'm looking for some summer tyres which won't kill her in the current winter conditions. Although to be honest, with the current near-zero tread she is on, I doubt anything could be worse!

Can I deviate on size, or does it have to be the above?

Stick some cheapish winterish tyres on then, if it's being sold in the summer, not your problem if the new owner wears through their tyres really quickly in the heat.

My local tyre place offered me some "Apollo Accelere Winter" tyres for cheap. I decided against it because.. Indian tyres, but they're probably ok.

Vredestein Sportrac 3 are £195 delivered for 4 from Camskill. That's without shopping around.

I tend to find I can call around a few local, reputable tyre dealers and get a price similar to that online including fitting. Often I find it cheaper (Not always, in which case order online and pay £10-£15 per tyre fitted).

For comparison the cheapest tyres on Camskill in your size, Nankangs, come to £135 delivered. I would say the additional £60, or £15 per tyre, is a worthwhile expense if you can afford it.

As much as I would love her to put winter tyres on, it's just not worth it given the sale in June/July. The KH31's do sound good. Where is cheapest? Camskill certainly dony seem to have any. Just out of morbid curiosity now, can we deviate on the size of the above?

Why would the insurer need to know?! If the 20" chrome alloys fit onto the hubs, what is their concern?

If you like the rainsport 2's, have a look at the rainexperts, as they are also quite good. (you won't get rainsports in such a high profile) Cost around £43-£45 each on camskill.

You can go over to 195/60R15 with a 1% increase in circumference. (which is no issue) Prices are barely different. They will be H speed rating too which is one higher. (not that it makes any difference) The increase in tyre width will help increase stability slightly too.

The vredesteins suggested above are also a good choice, but they are about £10 more each.

Will a 195 be too wide to fit on the rim?

If not, T1-R in 195/50/15 are about £29

Has anyone tried Dunlop Sports in this size? We put Nokians on the gf's Focus for the winter, but will need summer tyres afterwards.

195/50 will be about 5% too small so they wouldn't be any good. You only have about 3% variation to play with. 195 should be fine down to about a 5.5" wide rim. I have 195 tyres on my 15" wheels which are 6" wide.

If you have smaller than 5.5" wide rims i'd go with 185/65 as these should fit, if in doubt though, just stick with the original tyre size. You can get 175/65 T rated uniroyals from mytyres for just under £44 each delivered.

How have you gleaned from this thread I am wanting to change anything but the tyres themselves?

Yes, I was the first person in the thread to actually bother suggesting a tyre.

You are proposing to make a modification that will affect the handling of the vehicle. The insurance will use that as an excuse not to pay out in the event of an accident if you don't tell them.

That said, I went from 185 to 195 on my old Volvo, and didn't bother to tell the insurance but that's because both sizes were listed as valid in the sticker on the door jam. Don't know if the insurance would have complained as I never crashed the Volvo, just drove it into the ground then sold it for £200.
