Astra VXR

R26. Insurance for me and wifey is £420 PA with elephant. I am 26, she is 24. One of the best hot hatches out there!

This upgrade would be a big deal to me, so i'll get the car im most happy with not what someone on the internet said was better

I think basing a car purely on looks is idiotic, especially if you haven't driven either of them.

I have driven the VXR and must agree the turbo is ON or OFF and does drive rough, and a lot more uncomfortable than the ST.

Haven't driven a Golf GTI so couldn't comment on that,

If the car is a a big upgrade isnt it worth spending the time to test drive all the ones in class and see which one puts a smile on your face? Im sure you will be pleasantly surprised and you may even change your mind.

Look buddy its your money, but don't spend it and regret.

Ash

Has anybody got some useful information about the vxr please? Any problems i should look out for? :)

You really are like talking to a brick wall. It's like your thread where your car got written off where telling you that you had parked in a completely stupid place and should be careful not to do it again was met with similar response. You know best, everyone else is wrong, you are not interested in anyone elses opinion.

We've given you a pile of useful information about the VXR and how it compares to other hot hatches. Yet you choose to fight with or plain ignore those who have taken time out to offer you advice, and simply repeat your question until you get the answer you want to hear.

To answer your question: Look out for the Astra badge, if its got this, there is a problem - it's an Astra VXR.

I'm not basing my purchase purely on looks, that would be ridiculous. I'm not going to bother with the R26 as the insurance is out insane, no idea why. I don't really like golfs, whats so hard to accept about this? And i am going to test drive both the ST and VXR.

Nothing, if you then went on to say you'd prefer a Honda S2000, or perhaps a Mazda6 MPS or an Impreza, or something quite different to a Golf. I don't really like Golfs either, they are totally not my sort of car.

But then you say you want an Astra. This is where it becomes confusing. There are many reasons to dislike a Golf but all of them apply equally if not more so to the Astra. They are both the same type of car, only the Astra is a poor example of such a car whereas the Golf is a good example. There is nothing so bad about the Golf that doesnt apply to the Astra that would make the Golf not even worth a test drive. It might blow you away!

At the end of the day both are 3 or 5 door hatchbacks.

I'm just not interested in yours for the majority of your posts. No matter what i say you will ignore it, and continue to twist my words to make me look like im in the wrong. I've managed in life so far without the glorious advice from you, so new plan is just to ignore the bordom that is your posts.

Again, is this the R26.R or the Team F1 you have been getting high quotes for? The Team F1 shouldn't be any different than the VXR or ST to insure.

Not got a phone quote from my insurer on the ST yet, but the VXR was £1600 and the F1 was £3000. But based on internet quotes, the ST was considerably less than the VXR

Look at this thread.

EVERYONE has the same opinion as me. It isnt just me at all.

I came into this thread with decent and sincere advice. I spoke openly and honestly about the cars and my experiences of them with a view to helping you buy the best car. And what do you do? You thank me by insulting me. You are a lovely person. Really lovely. If my posts are 'boredom' what does that make yours!

Buy the Astra - such a crap car would suit you down to the ground. You can then tell us how great it is like you did with that awful C2 you had, and we can laugh.

Also, can I just LOL at your £1600 insurance quote for a Vauxhall Astra? You are 24 years old and prepared to pay £1600 to insure an Astra? Bwaahahahahaha.

Hows that for boredom?

ASTRA VXR

- Cheap Interior
- Horrible Ride
- Noisy Ride
- Doesnt handle corners great

+ Quick
+ Looks sportier then rest (or chavvier)

my 2 cents.

Based on a few people on here that had VXR Astras and Vectras that played with them, had problems, then hurriedly put them back to stock before selling on...

I'm sure there are the odd stories of success, but from reading on here and on PH, smooth sailing with tweaked VXRs doesn't seem that common.

I think that isn't really true. I'm a regular on the Astra Owners Club and other Vxl sites meaning I've got plenty of friends with modified VXR's and problems have been minimal and generally nothing to do with tuning so I'm not sure why you think so many have issues.

I also think people are going OTT to define the Astra VXR as a crap car because it isn't. There may be other cars out there which are better in some peoples opinions but that doesn't mean that the Astra is rubbish. It just looks like the usual Vxl haters are out in force as per usual.

Are the interiors really that bad in the astra's? Like i said i haven't driven one yet, so this is something im yet to experience. Remember i am used to french cars :p

That doesn't seem right  When I was getting quotes on all the hot hatches they all came in in and around the same price, the megane definitely wasn't double! Might be worth going on some of the Renault owners clubs and seeing what insurance company is recommended, it shouldn't be that high.

Ha :D

I don't know why people are even remotely surprised when threads like this go this way.

If you post "I want to know xyz about car x", if you're about to make a bad choice, you're going to get opinions and facts that you didn't ask for. Anyone who has been around here 2 minutes knows that, it's one of the things that makes this forum great. What i dont get is the fingers in the ear"lalalalalalala" attitude that some people respond with.

If you want specific information about a specific car, there are a million better places to get it. If you good advice and honest opinions, ask here.
