New Sub-Forum Idea

GD, general dumping ground, enter at your own risk. GD is fine as it is. It contains a wide range of topics from the very interesting to the silly. A sub-forum will dilute what is an interesting place. When it comes to threads you don’t like there is always the back button.

youtube links generally all go in 1 thread, "link and run" threads will often be deleted if not accompanied by some sort of discussion topic

The RSS style link and run threads should also come with a 24hr suspension in my opinion ... if you can't be bothered to actually contribute to the discussion of what you are posting then you shouldn't post it and it is, in effect, spam.

Why have any subforums at all then, after all there is always the back button! Perhaps trying to improve the quality of overall posting and organisation of a forum is a bit better than encouraging people to have to navigate through swathes of nonsense to try and find the diamonds in the rough.

Totally agree with this. If you just post text from a news site, the thread should be deleted. If you post text with PROPER accompanying opinion, it should stay.

Yup that's how I feel about it. That's what GD is for. If someone wants to generate a debate with a linked article - fantastic. If it's just a post a link - here you go. Then frankly it might as well just be spam.

No it doesnt need changing atall. It's just General Discussion. Are you telling me you wouldnt discuss the videos you see on the internet or news stories with friends? Or just tell someone to go view "blah video"

This place is for discussion, So discuss. Stop trying to change and\or limit what is discussed

Maybe new rule time? ;)

We have enough and in general people stick to them pretty well. One would hope common sense or at least interest would spark an interesting OP.

However, we'd end up closing 70%* of the threads owing to the lack of sensibe content! ;)

So if its moderator opinion that posting news articles whilst offering zero opinion or original content whatsoever is not really what we want in GD, would you mind popping over to simulatorman's thread where I am currently being beaten with a stick for daring to criticise him for doing just that by a bunch of people for whom the irony of whinining on the internet about somebody who was whining on the internet has passed by?

Thanks ;)

If it's there for people to see and discuss, I don't see the problem?
