Steam games that don't work

Got 29 Steam games & the only 2 which don't run properly are:

GTA 4. CDT after the intro, spent ages fiddling about trying to get it to run but in the end bought a hard copy which runs perfectly.

Fallout 3. Frequent CTDs at seemingly random times, super-frequent saving got me through the game but knowing I could crash at anytime ruined the experience (getting game of the year edition on disc for Xmas).

All my other games run perfectly, just wondered if anyone else has had similar experiences.

Crysis...but i dont think its a Steam issue...

Screen goes mental afer a random amount of time. Had similar with SC2 (not steam) until i jammed some more RAM in and since then its been fine. Not tried Crysis again since though.

I've had issues with games I've Steam, but they're never related to Steam specifically. If the Steam copy of GTA IV doesn't works, and the retail does, have you tried verifying the game cache integrity?

Steam forums are full of people claiming specific games don't work on steam despite other people running them fine. I have the steam version of GTAIV and have put many hours into it without any crashes.

When I have had problems they have turned out to be at my end. I was convinced Medieval Total War II didn't work, but it turned out to be a conflict with one of my AV programs. I also experienced crashes to desktop for a while, and these turned out to be incorrect RAM voltages.

I had an issue with L4D1 whereby it would just not start. Even on a reinstall of the game. I reinstalled W7, and it was - unsurprisingly - solved. Very annoying issue, whatever it was.

None of the 50-odd games I've bought on steam work for me at the moment.

Probably something to do with my idiot son clicking a link sent to him in game and logging in with my user / pass rendering the account disabled  :(

Nigerians with Urgent Business Proposal please ignore him :(

Never managed to get Soldiers: Heroes of WW2 working properly, though I think it's more down to Win7 than steam.

I got a bunch of games that i had to get nocd's to actually run. one game i cant get to work at all is world of zoo but i think its rubbish anyway but was part of the THQ pack a while ago. Mount and blade also doesnt work but warband does. starwars battlefront 2 needed a helpping hand to get working same with freedom force. overall i think any game which is getting quite aged isnt likely to work for me.

Plants Vs Zombies doesn't work for me. A little research tells me it's because it's not compatible with my sound card.

I have problems with Fallout 3 crashing and non of the suggested fixes work.

Fallout NV will crash if you get a steam advert in the background, or steam tries to update itself or another game while you are playing. I now run a quick game of something other than NV before getting stuck into a session, (To trigger the steam advert). I haven't had a crash since. I haven't got FO3 on steam, but I bet it suffers from the same issue.

What annoyed me most was the fact I bought GTA4 off steam especially to play on my new Asus 4850 512mb (which I had just bought). When I stuck my old Radeon 1950pro back in the game worked fine but as you can imagine the graphics were dire. When I got the hard copy (£15 Tesco) it worked perfectly with the 4850.

So yes, I do accept my 2 steam games might be having some sort of conflict with my hardware but when the disc copy is installed it works perfectly. I bet when I get Fallout 3 on disc for Xmas it runs fine.

This hasn't stopped me buying games off steam, however when I'm downloading one I do hope I get no problems. With hard copies I'm 100% they will run fine.

The problem with Steam at least in Fallout 3 case is you couldn't use a lot of the community patch's and fixes or maybe thats oblivion. Same engine similar problems

Never had a problem with games bought on Steam that was CAUSED by Steam except once with Disciples 2. And even then turning off the Steam community overlay (as suggested in the game's Steam forums) solved that .....................
