Samsung Galaxy S... highest spec Android phone released... also with QWERTY!

Finally contacted 3 and got my contract and phone upgraded. Got a Samsung Galaxy S being delivered tomorrow, £31 per month, 2000 mins, 5000 texts, 5000 3 to 3 units, 3gb of internet.
 
Doesn't look too promising, as it only restores the GPS subsystem to factory defaults.

But my GPS at factory defaults sucked. And it still does even after trying the fixes. I have always had terrible "wander" on my GPS. Fire up Maps or Navigation... first GPS lock on isn't too long in coming, and isn't too bad in terms of accuracy in general... and then *whoosh* off it goes. Even when I'm stationary, the GPS has me moving in random erratic patterns all over the map, in a rough 30m circle around my actual location. Utterly useless for navigation, of course.

So I think I'll still be waiting for a fix to this. It's the only aspect of the phone that's less than great for me, but it's a real PITA, to be honest. :(
 
Yes, im on the new jpa and its really wierd. TBH i dont really use the gps on the phone since i have tomtom gps bluetooth unit but its when i forget it and i have to use the inbuilt gps and its all over the place and sometimes i just want to throw the phone out of frustration but i love the rest of the phone. It does everything i want but this.
 
Same issue with me. GPS is completely unusable for navigation. Utter pants, I'm afraid.

I'm used GPS Status and SGS Tools to try the fixes. Some of the suggested fixes make it worse, if anything. Nothing has made it better.

dmpoole, what do you mean when you say you've used Toolkit? Do you mean SGS Tools, or is that another app? Would love to get this fixed, and will keep trying anything I can...
 
Ah right. Yeah, I thought that app was just called GPS Status. I've got that and tried many times resetting the GPA status, downloading GPS data, changing from Standalone to MS-Assisted, changing the SUPL settings, doing a Position Test, pretty much everything I've seen suggested.

Still, the accuracy is appalling and the "wander" I get on the GPS position makes using it for navigating (or even accurate augmented reality app use) no good at all.

Really the only downside to a cracking phone for me. I really hope Samsung get an alternative fix out sometime soon...
 
Right so can someone tell me how the hell I get 2.2 on my Galaxy S.....

I've tried connecting to Kies and it tells me im up-to-date and there isn't anything to upgrade firmware wise......my phone appears to have the 3 button boot mode blocked aswell!

Really getting on my wick now as I want to upgrade it and I don't know how to! Phone is on Orange if that makes any difference!

Does someone have any advice or anything? Also why is my phone blocking the 3 button boot mode? Is there a complete guide for a n00b like me?
