Little discussion for us. Personally i think it's absurd the amount of money that footballers get paid. Surely it will all implode, not sustainable at all!

Thoughts?

No, absolutely not. The salaries are obscene and ridiculous. However we live in a market economy and this is what the market has deemed the value of the players is. None of them deserve £50,000 a week but if the club stopped paying them £50,000 a week another club would start paying them that.

In the long run they are paid what they are worth otherwise the industry will implode. If the industry never does then they do indeed deserve the money as they make the product that consumers are willing to purchase.

If some idiot will pay them that much then unfortunately thats how much they are 'worth'. No one can really deny the fact that they dont really deserve it. Could say the same about other sports though, like F1...

Sure, if the money generated by their image rights and associated sponsorship to the club, along with their overall performance on the field contributing to continued success for their football club then yes they are worth the salaries they are paid.

If however, their salary is not recompensed by the above stipulations then, no.

The value of an individual financially is directly proportional to the wealth created by that individual.

Just stating No doesn't consider the money generated by the individual concerned, who should profit, the club/shareholders or the person responsible for the wealth generated.

That's one of the reasons why I don't watch the game. The various players who committed infidelity etc don't help my views either!

I think the pay is way too high. There should be salary caps applied by Fifa, it works in Rugby.

Nope. Based on effort/time = money then nowhere near. They get paid millions for what most people have to either pay to do or make sacrifices to enjoy. Lucky gits.

for those who have more or less just posted "no", it's more interesting if you discuss your opinion, otherwise it would just be called General and not General Discussion ;)

No, but then neither to all the other 'pro-athletes'.
Do F1 drivers deserve the millions they earn?

Absurd amounts, yes. However that is the market. Sustainable? How long does everyone plan on renewing their Sky subscription?
