Yes they do. The people who pay them deem them to be worth the salary based on the income they bring to the company, so yes they deserve it.
As some others have pointed out, footballers seem like an obvious target for this type of criticism, the same can be said for many other athletes. For me golf is maybe a worse culprit (with regards to high earnings)

Not really a great point when their basic salary still carries several zerosI would like to point out that most of the money that F1 drivers make is not from driving but advertising and I think they do deserve the money they get.

I think the pay is way too high. There should be salary caps applied by Fifa, it works in Rugby.
