Masters funding?

For various reasons I'm currently looking at doing at masters starting next years. Does anyone know what the funding situation is like?

You want to do 'a masters' - presumably you have a subject in mind no?

Does your current place not offer you the chance to get a masters as a 4 year undergrad degree - tis a useful workaround as your LEA still pays the bulk of the fees and you still get a loan.

Research councils can help AFAIK - a friend did an applied maths masters and got it fully funded complete with grant too.

Problem is in most industries an undergrad masters is still an undergrad degree... Waste of time for a lot of industries tbh.

As one of the company guys that came in to talk to us recently said, it's a way of universities hanging on to students for another year and making more money. The only real positive is that is is veiwed in a better light if you head off to so a postgrad course (full masters or PhD)/

I think if you really want to become a top management consultant, I'd work for a couple of years in a relevant job for a few years. Then do an MBA at a good school, and then you should hopefully be in a good position to get into a large consultancy firm.

These jobs at McKinsey&Co, BCG and Bain&Co are extremely competitive (I would class them as the most competitive graduate/experienced jobs to go for). You may find depending on your work experience you can get into more specialist consultancies more easily.

Here's a nice list to look at when you apply. Vault.com has a lot more information as well.

Good idea to look at that list, I'll try applying for a couple that aren't quite as near to the top!

Management/Business/Economics are the areas I'd be interested in.

Mine was funded thanks to the European Social Fund. I was even paid a weekly allowance.

edit: Sorry I should have said I graduated in 2006.

Hi guys I am also thinking of doing msc next year. On the application form it is asking me how will I fund my study as I don't have a source of income atm. Is tuition fee loan the only viable route? As some one mentioned there is tuition fee grant aswell?

You should write PCDL + self funded. PCDL only gives £10,000. The money for tuition fees goes directly to the university and any remaining amount you get into your bank account.

You get to request up to £10,000. You dont have to take a full loan out..

You get a 13 month interest holiday where the government pays the interest, and after that you get charged 9.9% APR over 5 years.

I've got a CompSci degree from the University of Kent... did a year in Industry for Siemens in Vienna which was cool.

I did exactly the same, University of Kent with the year in industry with Siemens in Vienna. I went back to to Kent and did a masters in biometrics in the electronics department which was fully funded by a grant fees and maintenance from the EPSRC. With business I dont really know where you would find a grant for that, best to approach the departments directly and ask to be honest.

However its gone pretty well for me Im now doing a fully funded degree out in Saudi Arabia from that.

I think I know who you are, your initials are MD, I take it? Glad to hear things are going well for you. I've got you on facebook my first name is Joel.

I recently started my MSc, most of the people are getting theirs paid by their employers. Unluckily for me I had to pay mine out of my own pocket, and there was no government funding available.
