I have a GIGABYTE R HD 4870x2 2GB PCIE 2xDVI Graphics Card with 2 Monitor.

What would be the best Card around to add on to this.

Wasnt looking to spend no more then 150-200 on it.

do you mean to crossfire with (both cards working together?)

well, the only card which will do it will be the HD 4870 but aren't been manufactored anymore so would have to buy in online auction for ~£70.

this isn't as simple as one may think, you need to make sure your motherboard can suport crossfire and if your powersupply can output adequate ammount of power.

also there is a large ammount of bugs with trifire (HD 4870x2 with another HD 4870.)

i would recommend selling your HD 4870X2 on online auction for ~£150 and use the money to buy the HD 6900 series coming out this month. i would think the preformance would be quiet similar due to tri-crossfire won't use the full power of another HD 4870 and a hell lot less bugs/glitches, and a lot less power needed.

Simple answer is, for that cash, nothing!
I'm in the same situation mate. There's nothing for £200 thats going to beat a 4870x2 sadly.
Best bet is to wait for the new AMD 6970/ 6990 and see how they stand price v performance but you'll be looking at £300+ min.
You could add a 2nd hand 4870 to go tri-xfire but I'm not sure the returns are worth the hassle.
Is there a feature you need or game you can't play thats driving this or is it just the need for something new? :D

Trifire or quadfire isnt really worth it, if you're struggling with the 4870x2 the only real upgrade I reckon is going to be the 6970. I personally am going to get the 6990 to replace my 4870x2 and future proof me for another couple of years. Sod buying the so called latest and greatest every 3 months like what a lot of people do.

Thanks for your help guys. maybe i should have posted everything in the first place like i done in the main area on this forum........

when it comes to p.c Upgrades i dont do a bad job with my picks.

I have built my last 1 p.c so i know a little bit about it all.
Built my last P.c for Gaming really, but havent played much as i am a Sports Trader.

But for this Upgrade i feel lost and need to ask a few question.

first my Specs.
AMD Phenom X4 9750 Quad-Core 2.4Mhz
Asust M3a43-mvp Deluxe
4X 1024MB DDR2-800 SDRAM
SyncMaster 225BW
SyncMaster 920NW
CARDVIDE GIGABYTE R HD 4870x2 2GB PCIE 2xDVI
1050watt or 950 PSU(dont know what one it is tho)

now the problem i have, i am not sure on what to get for my upgrade.

am looking to get 2 more Monitors, one for my Sky TV. one for the P.c.
Should i just get one Monitor and maybe a TV for my sky(looking for both to be around 22'' maybe 26''. but i not sue what to look for.

so that will mean adding a 2nd Graphics Card. what one, have no clue.

Now i dont want to go over the top, was looking to spend no more the 400-500. or do it for less.

Your Help would be good on this matter.

I had a 4870x2 and then bought a geforce 470. The 470 is the better card. It may not have as many maxium fps but minimum its a lot better.

The last 4870x2 2gb in members market went for £80.

What?! £80 for a 4870X2 r u sure??? iv been looking for a 2nd 4890 online and the lowest iv seen one go for is £90 and i refuse to pay that for such an old card add delivery your looking at £100 i only paid 140 for mine brand new and that was a year ago.

a year ago i had 2 x 4870x2 in quad fire.......they had heat issues being so close in the case and scored 27000 in vantage...my 5970 scores 33000.... needless to say i didnt have them long before selling them for my current card.

Yeah, not really an upgrade though is it. 4870x2 is generally a faster card over all and still plays all the lastest game @ 1920x1200 with high settings. Not going to lie, it is starting to show it's age but I'm not made of money. Thus far I haven't seen a gfx card with enough of an advantage or a game too demanding to justify the move.

I'll be selling my lovely 4870x2 soon with artic extreme cooler, If nvidia could deliver my 580gtx i actually canceled it today maybe i'll have more look buying a 6970.

ehhhhhheeeeem is everybody here forgeting about the eol 5870's? xfx 5870>4870x2

and there only £187 if i were you i would sell your 4870x2 and get one
plus if you have a decent enuff psu and can support xfire i would get 2 :P

They are not that much faster they are actually on Par and compared to the 580GTX the 5870 is not that impressive esp when you put tessilation onto the card you might aswell run a 4870x2 still.

Hmmm get a separate television/tv for your sky tv and hook up your second monitor to your second DVI port no need to get another graphics card if you ask me.

Basically It seems like all you want to do is have two monitors running off your hard drive and have one television screen for sky.

Simples

Or the 27.5inch one for an extra £110.

I have 1 * Hanns-G 27.5inch Monitor and 1 * Hannspree 27.5inch television which also pairs with a monitor so I have them both plugged in to my pc one in to my x box and another in to my TV so everything I could need! Not sure the Hannspree is available at overclockers but with 1920*1200 resolution its perfect if you want to connect the pc to it as well and sat next to the Hanns-G 27.5 inch it looks gorgeous :)

As for your build it seems fine to me for the time being unless your have problems running games etc?

Hannspree 27.5" Full HD LCD Tv With freeview goes for around £280
HannsG 27.5" Full HD Monitor is £259.99 on OC Uk: http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MO-001-HS

£540ish (bit over budget)

Or alternatively go for a 25inch range http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MO-001-HG
@ £149.99

Hannspree 25-inch Full HD 1080p LCD TV with Digital Tuner (only 1920*1080)
@ £150ish

= £300 for two new monitor/tvs should sort u out imo don't worry about the unknown name these tv/monitors run like dreams!

hope this helped

4870 x2 or x1 image quality and effects are nowhere near current mid range and higher current generation cards that use later versions of Direct X. Even if the games and benchmarks do run well enough you are missing something

image quality? not sure about that one tbh, can you be more specific?
The only reason for me to go from a 4870x2 to a 5870 is for DX11 and that's not enough of a reason for me. I'm still getting good performance in all the games I play and haven't seen a game where DX11 really makes that much of a diff. Don't get me wrong, I'm looking for excuses to upgrade but also want to get the most out of my current card.

Sure? I offered the money and would have got it if someone else hadn't bot the lot from the seller.
