Its time to buy my 2 boys a new machine for christmas, so far ive bought 2 xfx 5870`s and 2 Akasa AK-CCX-4002HP Venom CPU Cooler.
I want them to choose their own case to make them individual. So i need some help with cases that fit these components in the 50-100 quid range.

I saw the storm scout was on offer but heard they can`t take a 5870.

So any other cases within my budget i could get them to choose?

Coolermaster CM-690 II Is a nice case to build with, so is a Coolermaster HAF 922 (which is bigger), Antec 902, Lancool K62.

Those are quite popular cases, each have their own merits, should all be suitable however.

you could fit the 5870 in a storm scout but you would have to take the bottom hd bay out, ive seen it done around, looks quite good, people just store theyre harddrives in the optical bay

I like the look of the cm-690,but i will forward all of your suggestions. The problem with kids is they have their own strange ideas as to what looks good. But who im i to argue.Ive got a funny feeling the HAF may be popular with them :)

When you say take the bottom bay out, would it involve cutting?
Maybe it would be to much messing about if they both choose this option.

If the Storm Scout is anything like the CM-690 II, then the bottom drive bays are held on with a few small screws and are easy to remove.

Unfortunately it isn't. It is attached by steel pegs during assembly. I have just had my new Scout collected for replacement as one side of the cage hadn't been fitted over both pegs, so it was completely out of alignment for the drive rails.

It appears to be a very unusual manufacturing error that I haven't seen reported before.

Shame about the 5870 being too long, I would have been very tempted to order one while they are £180.

No idea how good some of these are (some of these I certainly wouldn't want, but I'm no longer a kid).

Antec 902
Antec Dark Fleet
BitFenix Survivor
Fractual R3
NZXT Panzerbox
Lian Li (PC7/8) Can always mount hard drives in optical / floppy bays if length an issue.
Some of the cheaper Silverstones (TJ05/6, PS03/4)

... xclio a380 *hides head and yells: they are kids!?

Look at the thread on the coolermaster 430 in this forum

Its got a window, led fans and it fits long graphics cards.

Its also just under your budget, I think you know what to do.

I read a thread reviewing this, they said that when a large after market cooler is fitted it makes the top coolling fans redundant.
It may be an issue with the viper.

I would recommend this Fractual R3
Ive currently got the R2 version of the case and cant give it any higher rating then 20 out of 10.
It currently house's a 9800 GX2, an 8800 GTS 512Mb and an 8800GT all running at 100% doing Folding at home.
With the addition of a 120mm fan to the front and a 140mm fan to the side the highest ive seen my cards go to is 87c on average the 9800GX2 is known to run at 95c+ when running at 100%.
The noisest part of my system is the videocard fans.
